My response was tongue and cheek. He was clutch for sure. Didn’t he play for the colts in his later years? Think he made some big kicks with them too.You mean the dang kicker who hit the game winners in three Super Bowls? And the kick that tied the Raiders in the tuck rule game is the greatest in NFL history. He absolutely deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. And Witten wasn’t even the first player out, he was behind three others. So no, Vinatieri didn’t steal his spot.
But if you’re inducting him as a returner then that alone separates his other stats. Hesters Super Boel contributions and touchdown are considerably legendary. Idr what Patterson did in the Super Bowl but correct me if I’m wrong, it wasn’t that. I WANT Patterson to get in, but I don’t think it is as likely as what is being implied here. You may be right.
However, CP has 48 total TD's compared to Hester's 37.
CP also has 14,112 all-purpose yards compared to 14,452 for Hester. CP can still improve and finish above.
Plus Patterson is a Superbowl champion, on the 2010 all-decade team, and plenty of contributions as a RB / WR to go along with his special teams credentials.
Just read about Stanley Morgan in the countdown thread. Looked up his stats. 550+ receptions. 10000 + yards. 70+ TDS. 19.2 yards per catch for his career which is an NFL record. Played before pass favorable rule changes when teams mostly ran. Why isn’t he in HOF?
Isn't* YETMorgan feels Hall of Very Good to me. As compared to MLB, which is more based on compiling over 15 yrs, the NFL HOF is more based on a shorter multiyear peak. Other than 86, which was an elite season, there really isnt that crazy multiyear peak with him....
Its why Terrell Davis is in and Frank Gore isnt
