This article is a ray of light and shows a glimmer of the team starting to come together and starting to care more about winning. Hoping that there is much more of this self-motivation in the days to come.

Sunday film review shows Vols 'being leaders' after loss

The day after Tennessee’s 47-21 loss to rival Florida was hardly a typical Sunday inside the Anderson Training Center.

In the aftermath of a lopsided defeat Saturday night in Tennessee’s SEC opener, first-year coach Jeremy Pruitt said he passed through the Vols’ football offices and found an unusual sight for a Sunday: a number of players watching film on their own, on what’s officially a day off for the team during the season.

“I’m walking through the office, and our offices are littered with our players in there watching tape,” Pruitt said during his weekly Monday press conference. “I had no idea they were up there. We’ve got groups of guys that’s got them in there.

“Talking about players being leaders — I guess they organized it. But it’s the first time I've seen that.”

Tennessee’s defensive backs were among the players who took it upon themselves to meet Sunday and review film of Saturday’s game.
“The DBs, we came together,” said Tennessee cornerback Baylen Buchanan, a junior who has started each of the Vols’ first four games this season.
Buchanan said Tennessee junior safety Nigel Warrior a fellow starter, spearheaded the effort shortly after Saturday’s game.

The Vols’ defensive backs opted to spend part of their Sunday watching film, Buchanan said, because they need to make more of “a difference in the game.”
Buchanan said the Vols (2-2, 0-1 SEC) need “to learn from last week” to prevent their first SEC loss from leading to multiple losses.

Sophomore offensive lineman Trey Smith, Tennessee’s starting left tackle, said the Vols’ offensive line decided to do the same thing.

"We watched film (Sunday) as a line unit, just trying to understand our mistakes, trying to get better," Smith said. "We've got to make our adjustments in practice. We've got to keep bringing it — just keep bringing it every day."

Apparently Florida players and coaches know a lot more about the fine details of the rules. They were able to block WR routes, hold, interfere all night and never get called. And holding on the O and D lines without it being a foul.
Yeah, the officials did let the Gators players get away with murder while they threw a flag on us if one of our guys just let out a fart.

I've been watching this scenario play out for about 20 years. It's so predictable. At the snap, a UF DB could tackle a UT WR and no one would seem to care from a ref perspective.

First thing that struck me is that this is evidently the first time any players have been in on Sunday at the facility watching film.....after week 4? Nobody thought that it might be a good idea to do this after getting their asses handed to them by a Big 12 team in week 1? That’s telling to me....this team isn’t bought in, as their on-field play has clearly shown, and this story on validates it further.

I’ll also add, heard Swain discuss it this morning. He said if they really wanted to have an effective, culture changing type meeting, they’d have watched the film as an entire team and called each other out/embarrassed the players who need embarrassing in front of the entire team, not just in the position group meeting rooms.

I dont know if embarrassment works as a motivating tool for today's athletes. Maybe Swain is just communicating his frustrations.

Yea, pretty much what I got. One line, I don't even remember, but as I read it I thought to myself, Well, it would've been great if y'all gave a chit a month ago.

But whatever, I'm not gonna bish about it. I'm not gonna verbally "pat them on the back" either. Just giter done.

Aight, you can have that score back. Only 19 more points to go.

It would seem that you do not know much about how momentum can affect the outcome of a football game. How different a game would it be if they call it and we get a pick 6 on next play? Guess we will never know as the refs could never seem to find their flags while we were getting hosed all game. When we get flagged for a late hit, well before any whistles have blown and on the next play 3-4 Florida players pile on our QB after whistle has blown 5-6 times and don't get flagged, it's not to difficult to see that TN had an uphill battle to fight.
