CBS is going with the Vols at LB for their ultimate roster. They claim UT is 3 deep at LB and that doesn't include the incoming Freshmen.
Amare Campbell and Arion Carter are the best LB duo we have had since when? Both are all-conference players

Spillman and Campbell are both top 30 linebackers for the 2027 draft at the moment. If Carter can stay healthy enough to keep those guys in the right positions I think wheels are up for that group this season. Who is playing joker/star or whatever Knowles calls that guy this season?

Knock Tim Banks all you want, the guy did a good job at recruiting the LB position...he just wasn't great at putting all the pieces together at once.
His 2024 defense was statistically better than any Tennessee defense since Neyland, including the '98 Nat'l Champs.
Stats don't tell the whole story, but Knowles certainly has a high bar set before him.

LMAO. I’m sorry we have some talent at the position but I haven’t seen elite play there. Telander is too damned slow to be on the field.
LOL. We have at least 3 linebackers that you have never seen in a game for Tennessee; at least one of those almost sure to start for us. I am not bashing Telander, he can contribute, but we may well have 5 other LBs ahead of him at this time. 🤔

The thing about Tealander that we've heard from coaches and from people who talk to coaches, is that he has such a high football IQ that he makes up for foot speed through his mental recognition. He's already diagnosed the play and is moving toward the correct spot while faster LBs are still processing information.

Unless another LB is able to beat him to the RB, or provide consistently better pass coverage over the middle, I think Tealander's value as a defensive QB is going to keep him high in the depth chart and on the field whenever Amare Campbell is out (unless to add another DB to a package).

We have not had good linebacker room since JH has been here.
Most years we have not been able to cover flare passes to running backs nor been
able to take good angles on wide running plays. I want to see progress on the field
before making judgement on our LB room.
