Vols fought fiercely but 14-point mistake turned the Tide

To call it a 14-point mistake is a bit disingenuous. We were likely going to have to settle for a field goal after one attempt to force a pass into the end zone. When the other team KNOWS you're passing the ball, it makes a goal line defense hella hard to overcome. No matter what formation we come out of.

So it was likely going to be a FG. So more accurate to call that one play a 10-point swing.

Is that significant enough to argue over? Probably not, given that we lost by 17. Just being accurate.

Go Vols!

That was a wounded duck of a throw. No zip on the ball at all. Almost looked intentional. You got to throw that to the pile on where your guy gets it or it goes out of bounds..

HEUPLE keeps on screwing up clock management, trying to leave no time on the clock for the opponent, and ultimately screwing his own offense.. PATHETIC for a "Seasoned" Head Coach. Leave enough time to RUN THE DAMN BALL. If you can't run it in from the ONE, you ain't good enough anyways. "Big play in the game for sure". So tired of his cutesy lack of English skills too.

I don't feel like we fought. I feel like we **** the bed. Mistakes, penalties, poor tackling, poor clock management, etc. The moment was too big for this team and we shrank.
Bishop played his azz off. I saw very little fight in our defense. That was the worst display of attempted tackling since the Sunseri days.

It's called a 14 point swing in football because that is the worst case scenario and also a probable scenario in most cases. It was a devastating gut punch I figured the Vols couldn't overcome.

It was a 14 point swing if it could have been 16-14 at half or at worst 16-10, a 10 point swing. Either way it was a double digit swing and changed the entire complexion of the game. It was a horrible play call, because that is such a low percentage play. Coaching error, just like sending the offense back out in the UGA game and deciding not to kick the field goal the play prior. Just dumb.

The other backbreaker was the offensive pass interference that backed the Vols way up and led to the safety. Just a horrible set of events. The coaches should not have had Aguilar throwing out of that scenario. With the success on the ground, coach should have ran the ball a couple of times.

Yes Heuple put the O in a very bad situation by intentionally running the clock down and left the O with 2nd and goal, no timeouts, and 9 seconds. AL D knew they were probably going to have to pass the ball on that down if they wanted a chance at more than one play for a FG. They even called timeout to discuss it and Heuple still ran the same play.

If you go in down 2, that's huge. After that pick6, you are deflated.

Pretty much agree. Difference is Bama probably wins a nail biter if not for that play and Tennessee has a chance. Self inflicted wounds took momentum all night. Drops, mistakes at the LOS.

You can’t show up for a rivalry and not play like it’s your last game ever. When we started half assing tackles in the 3rd quarter, I lost a ton of respect for our defenders.

Auburn absolutely sucks as a team, yet their defense shows up every week and takes the game to the final whistle. Why can’t we have their defense’s heart with our offense?

Fighting would mean they busted their rears to tackle, which tape shows they did not over and over and over again. Some played really hard, others seemed scared of contact, cannot have that in the SEC!

Yeah reminds me of a Georgia game about 20ish years ago with Casey Clausen at QB and a fumble/int near the goal line.

Time to put this one behind us and bombard Kentucky.

Every time. That pass has got be practiced day in and day out. Bet they run it 20 plus times a day in practice. The one goal ine pass in all of football that should never be missed, and can never be intercepted properly thrown unless they set you up with a defender lurking also behind the receiver near the pylon waiting to jump the outside route. And that rarley gets pulled off. And they knew that pass was coming. They had a 2nd defender behind the receiver that still woudn't have affected the play if on the pylon. the inside defender was for the possible pick. The "deep" defender was to try and keep his body out of the end zone if completed. He was step for step behind him for an attempted blockout if caught.

My senior English teacher would be proud of these "English" and Spelling Skills." It's Heupel!
