Vols Film Study: Kirkland, Reeves-Maybin, and the Blitz - FOX Sports Radio Knoxville

Check out new article from sethpricevfl. He is now a Fox Sports Radio contributor.

Really good stuff, a very good article. I can see as athletic and quick as some of our DEs are this year him dropping one of them in coverage and a LB or corner blowing by an OT for the sack. I just do not see any QB against a Shoop UT 120 defense standing around scanning the field at his leisure looking for a target to come open. It's gonna be 2 seconds and some 270/300 pound guy is going to be hanging around his neck or rolling around his knees. GBO!

QBs will have to get rid of the ball quick.

Glad to know about the safer coverage part of this scheme. I was worried about that part of it when you blitz a lot. Should be exciting!

Kinda off thread topic question.. What are the rules that a DB must follow in the first 5yds from LOS with a WR? Can a DB blow a WR off his route?

I belueve he could but risk getting blown by if he whiffs. That type of press coverage is a gamble. And of course if the ball is thrown that way and a DB is chicken fighting it's a PI flag.

A corner could simply jam a receiver on the line and keep him there. Punch the wideout in the chest and don't let him get started on the route. You don't see it often, but it could happen.

I am not sure of exact rule, but I think under Shoop corners will have to be more physical.

I have looked for this and not found much, but it seems that in college a db can bump and hand fight a receiver anywhere on the field as long as two conditions exist:

1. DB must be face to face with potential receiver
2. Ball is not being thrown
Once thrown it is holding. It is interference if your man is the intended receiver.

Not sure this helps and if anyone finds something else I would be interested also
