Vols Film Study: Anatomy of a Drive

Jack Jones really provided a spark. After reading practice reports about Thomas' ankle, maybe we can rest him against Ohio and get him healed up. I think much of his problems have been related to injury suffered before Appy State.

So what's our ideal starting line when all are completely healthy?
Lt - Kendrick/Richmond
Lg - Robertson
C - Weisman/ Thomas (if back to last years all-sec Thomas)
RG - Jack Jones
RT - Chance Hall
? I'm not as educated on the Oline so this is more of a guess

If healthy IMO you are close to correct with with what you have above. Wiesman would replace Robertson with Thomas at center and Kendrick and Richmond would share time. I believe the more Richmond plays the better he will be, so he needs more reps.
But I really like the idea of Jones and Hall together on the right side.

I like that Chance/Jones magic too but I do wonder if Chance shouldn't just take over the more challenging LT position instead.

LT: Kendrick has looked better than Richmond at LT in the few snaps we've seen. IMO, Richmond might ultimately be a better fit at RT or even LG. His struggles remind me of a young Dallas Thomas (who struggled at LT for two years before finding a home at LG and getting drafted).

LG: Honestly I'd like to see us give Boulware or maybe even Sanders or Mosley a shot here. One of those guys must be able to hold ground better than Robertson in the passing game. Still, we don't know if we have a better LG because we haven't seen one.

C: Wiesman has looked much better than Thomas there. But who plays center in 2017?

RG: Jones has been arguably our best (at the very least, our most aggressive) OL when he's been in.

RT: Hard to tell what our best option here is since we don't know if Hall has improved since his Freshman year (remember, he missed the spring also). Thomas looked like a decent option here in limited time against VT (surprisingly given how awful he was as an OT in 2014). Richmond might be a better fit here than LT possibly.

I've wondered if this staff is reaching out to any proven coaches when we are having a position group struggling like this or if they have too much pride and/or bullheaded?

I understand the line functioned decently last year but Debo/DM/Butch have let all of them regress in the offseason. Maybe from lack of contact for safety, idk?

I would think Butch should reach out to someone like Fulmer or even some other coach he knows that has had success with Olines and let them get 2gether and evaluate what is going on and figure which players need to be at which position to give us the best overall line and then how to work out the kinks those 5 players have in the shortest amount of time.

It was ez to see IMO that Butch has went all in on this season and team 120 during the off season and I would think he knows this is the most likely team to take us to a champ and if they fall on their face his recruiting will surely suffer massively so I would think he would get any help he could to patch up this line and how best to scheme around their strengths/weakness's.

I think Thomas' struggles have been injury related. Injury prior to Appy State. If we can get his ankle healed up, then Wiesman can stay at guard. We are fortunate that he can play LG, RG and C.
