Vols Fall Practice #7

So he's gonna kinda throw this season just to have Merk transfer and then have a true freshman in Faizon and a sophomore that hasn't played much compete with another transfer QB? Doesn't make sense but I guess you never know.
I think Caleb is assuming they're both about equal and Heupel thinks he can win the same amount with either guy. I get it. If Merk isn't the future, you're allowing him to possibly be the future when you prefer the other guys and you paid a lot of money for a transfer to sit on the bench. I'm not saying that would be what I would do. Heupel loves him some experience but JA has a lot to overcome for him to be the clear favorite.

True freshman Cornerback Tim Merritt is getting lots of buzz. Hubbs said that he seems to be the 4th man at Corner behind only McCoy, Gibson, and McMurray. Thats great to hear...we signed 6 DBs in this 2025 freshman class and theres lots of speed, size, and talent there. They will play significant roles in 2026-28 playoff runs IMO. We have a couple good CBs and Great Safeties coming in 2026 class as well.

Freshman RB Justin Baker is a big strong back at 225 or 230lbs. Bet he makes his presence known on special teams this year. Too many RBs ahead of him to get carries though between the 3 older guys and Daune Morris who is a speedster.

Freshmen LBs Harmon and Perlotte are both future impact players as well. The starters are set at LB, and Spillman/Burns are ahead of the freshmen as well due to experience...but BOTH freshmen LBs were outstanding high 4* guys in HS recruited hard by UGA, Bama etc and don't be surprised to see them get some snaps this year. Both guys are big AND fast, gifted athletes.

This 2025 and the 26 classes are full of athletes that will take us to the next level IMO. The very top echelon in FBS where we are looking to make playoff runs nearly every season. What a great time to be a Tennessee VOL.
Merritt is not the 4th CB. You left out Colton Hood.

Our qb situation reminds me a bit of Jason White vs Heupel. Both great qbs in practice, but the experience put Heupel over in the end . JW was a tf , so not apples to apples, but it still has the same "feeling " to me . I think JA ends up starting.

And how do you know that and what do you know? At least I named a source can you please elaborate? Not trying to come off As an a hole btw.
Can’t say. So you’ll just have to trust me. Aguilar is not getting the majority of the snaps with the 1s. At least not this week. We will see what changes after the first scrimmage.

Good catch bud. You're right.

He may actually end up CB4 though if McMurray stays at Nickel behind Boo? Regardless no way Merritt is in front of any of those veterans now as a freshman. Good catch. So glad McCoy was back today. Hope he is ready for UGA.

Good news on McCoy

QB competition.... Merk looks to me to be ahead

Counting the throws to running backs and routes on air, Jake Merklinger completed 17-of-18 passes, Joey Aguilar completed 15-of-18 passes and George MacIntyre completed 16-of-17 passes. Thought both Travis Smith Jr. and Radarious Jackson made some nice snags as did Kitselman on a Merklinger throw that was a bit high.

"Edrees Farooq continues to work in the first team with Andre Turrentine" impressive
A lot different on game day versus on air practice. Probably won't truly know the starter till game three
