20. Tennessee Volunteers

Team value: $63 million
Revenue: $55 million
Profit: $28 million
Conference: SEC
Head coach: Butch Jones

The Volunteers suffered the biggest drop on our list, down 25% from a value of $63 million last year. The dip in value has a lot to do with the team buying out former head coach Derek Dooley and his staff, which could cost more than $9 million over four years. The athletic department has also greatly restricted its academic contributions while it stabilizes its finances. Tennessee's athletic department, formerly one of the biggest funders of academic programming with annual contributions over $6 million, gave just $1.3 million back to its university last year.

Not really surprising. What is surprising is that we could survive firing Fulmer and then following it up with two awful hires and several seasons of mediocrity at best. All things considered, #20 is outstanding for our current state of repairing years of coaching and AD mismanagement, years of a state budget cuts, high level unemployment and general economic hard times for all those who live here.

That said, DOOLEY SUCKS and so does Hammy.

It is a simple fix ... WIN!

There was a ton of butt revenue lost in recent years. Season tickets were available on a walk-up basis (no "voluntary" donation). Tickets were available at discounted prices at game time. Student tickets went into the general pool.

Winning will change the revenue. It is also all that will change it.

Damn Dooley! :realmad:

I reallly wonder why anyone pays attention to crap like this.

A college football team is worthless. And what I mean by this is: If you invest(donate) in a college football team what return is possible? Let's see bragging rights, excitement, happiness, what else?

These kind of articles give me suspicion that politics are behind it. Whether that be TAXES or let's pay players!!

This stuff is CRAP!!

History always repeats itself, I just hope it does before I'm history...

Honestly I've been thinking the same thing. The last NC game we were in I was 16 years old. I'm not 32 and our team is still at pretty much its all time low (I know we can go lower, so I don't even like to think about that).

How old will I be when this team claws its way out of the pit that it is in and get back to winning/competitive football?? I hope its soon.....very soon.

Tn will be fine. We're on the lamb for 9 mil to Dools and have lost alumni support because of the multiple coaching changes. A little winning will fix some of this but it's plain and simple; some of these schools (AK & Penn St) have supported it's teams better during their down times. A little advice to Texas; Be careful when you start forcing out coaches with 8 and 9 wins.

i hope and think butch jones will do well here, but even if he has the vols back at the top of the conference, i suspect it will take better than a decade to rid ourselves of the stain of mike hamilton. the payoff to dooley for proving his incompetence is bitter enough, but the real sting is knowing that hamilton built in a king's ransom for himself. if only he had taken half as much care of the vols as he did himself.

I thought we would be higher than that. I think next year we will go up a few spots. Once our team gets stability we should be top 10 every year.

I agree. I saw the list. Dang, just think where we'd be if we were winning. It just shows you how awesome and dedicated our fanbase is in both football and hoops even through the "dark days"
