Vols Crystal Ball

The two things CPF can be blamed for are being too loyal to Clausen and Sanders. Meyer, Saban, Spurrier, et al would have replaced both...

You act as if there was a lot of talent on the bench behind Clausen. Clausen wasn't Brett Favre, but he was a pretty decent QB

In 2000, UT finished unranked because Clausen didn't start soon enough. Had he been the guy from day 1, we would have won a few more games.

He was actually probably going to be the guy from day 1, but he had shoulder problems coming out of summer practice that kept him from playing until midseason.

Career Stats for Clausen:

775 Completions 1270 Attempts
9707 yards 75 TD's 31 INT's.

Did all he could to bring an SEC Championship to UT in 2001. In '03, he had 27 TDs and 9 INTs despite having virtually nobody to throw the ball to.

Who exactly should Phil have replaced him with?

Yes, but not by a lot. It's really not arguable, either.

I don't know that I'd go as far as to say it's not arguable. Woodson had a great year and was probably the best last year, but their passer ratings are really not very far apart at all and Ainge actually completed a higher percentage of his throws.

Correct. Then, when you compare the surrounding talent, it makes what Woodson did all the more impressive.
