Tennessee finished off the series sweep of Northern Illinois with a 7-2 victory in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

Good start to the season. Bet the players feel like a big monkey (named Todd) is off their backs. When players get developed right and have fun doing it they tend to work harder, believe in themselves/their teammates, and win. (Are you listening CDD?)

Go Vols!

I know its early in the year but you can already tell the difference between this coaching staff and the previous staff just in terms of players hustle and attitudes in general. I can't remember the last time I have seen us hit the ball as solid as we did all day today and ran the bases with such hustle and want too....I believe CDS will have us a nationally respected program again before long and I can't wait.

Get out of here with that CDD jab. Maybe if he had a schedule that started with Buffalo, Georgia State, and UT Martin you could rave about how his coaching style is evident.

3 good wins but I wouldn't get overly excited expecting huge things just because of this weekend. NIU wasn't a test in any shape form or fashion.

'Bout time. When was the last time we swept a series from a team we should have? Not since Delmonico.

Today was a great day of baseball. Let's not make this about other sports. NIU is not exceptional, but they are not trash either. This team is well coached as I expected. Huge Improvement on the defensive side as we used to make 3 to 4 errors a game under CTR. We will be much better as a team this year but still have a long way to go. CDS will recruit well going forward.

Wouldn't have swept with last years coach and might not have won 2/3. That in itself is enough to get excited. I don't think anyone is booking tickets yet to Omaha but we are headed in the right direction.

Delmonico didn't do it all that often. His teams were good every 4 years or so. CDS is the real deal. Enjoy vol fans!

Exactly.
The measuring stick is SEC Games, and non division teams that either made it to the CWS, or Super Regionals.
Be happy with the wins, but don't get to overly exited.

IMO it won't be fair to judge DS for at least 2 and more likely 3 years. His talent is so far below every SEC team except for KY I would be very surprised if they win 10 conference games. To be fair if DS doesn't succeed it won't mean he isn't a great coach. He has a lot of factors that make his task darn near impossible.

I thought that our pitching in all three games was really good. The huskies kept walking our batters, our pitchers didn't do that.

Can't wait till Tuesday, go vols!!!

I'm saying don't put any stock about what a kind of a team the Vols are with these 3 games.
I'm not going to judge Serrano in his first year because they are rebuilding, and most of the batters are Freshman. Won't be surprised to see growing pains when they play teams that are decent, or teams that are ranked in the top 25.

Agreed on all points.

The only other point I was making was that DS may very well be a Top 10 coach in America but still fail here. This is a tough job and the odds are stacked against him.
