It is what it is. Maybe late in the process but my guess is they have found other better options. That's life sometimes. Can't be avoided.

Getting tired of Chris Low posts that have negative feel to them

??? How would you spin this situation positively? I really like CLK and the whole staff, but the timing on this does stink. If there's a character issue with the kid, then Kiffin needs to come out and say that. Don't tell us that he doesn't fit the system. Low is really good.

he can't say anything about a specific recruit right now.

I really don't get where you're saying Low is spinning things negatively.

If anything Low is spinning this article to a positive for UT. Because in all honesty, what CLK did here was pretty bad. You mean to tell me that all of a sudden they just now decide he won't fit in. Should have told him a month ago.

CLK in a scoring tally has definitely had more positive notes so far, but this one is a negative tally for me.

If it was your kid, you'd be more than a little upset.
It's a butcher block mentality -- you ask all the recriuts to hold on during a coaching change, they do, and then two weeks before signing day you essentially cut them?
C'mon man, it is what it is.
At the same time, these are the types of things that happen when a coaching change is made in the middle of a season.
Comes with the turf.

Agreed. Before you get on to some new recruits you need to do some checking of your commits already and see who you would like to keep or who to tell they would be better off somewhere else. It doesn't make any sense for him to wait this long to tell a kid that he won't fit the system...It's not like he didn't have a vision of what he wanted as soon as he accepted the job. I personally don't like what Kiffin has done here. What really doesn't make sense to me is, don't you think you would want to tell the kids right away so you could have a better feel for how many scholarships you actually have to give away.....because here is my thing. Maybe the kids he is telling won't fit his system, but I would rather have a 3 or 4 star recruit this year that might not fit my system then a 2 star that will fit the system taking that former players scholarship. As late as he got into recruiting this year....to be turning down recruits like this....I don't know if I am a big fan of this move. I trust that CLK is going to be a great recruiter and coach for years to come....but I do think he came in a tad too late to be turning people away. What do I know...I root for the Bengals. Haha.

"Negative tally"?? Why do you know the whole story if there is one? The coach cannot comment on any recruits by name untill they are signed. The "did not fit the system" came from the kid not CLK. Even if the reason is he will not fit the new system (and we have commit from someone better) telling him now id better that having him ride the pine for a year or two untill he leaves.

Yeah I definitely think he has the right to be upset .... more at the lack of scholarships now available elsewhere. Maybe Kiffin did have a good reason for this, but him saying that the kid doesn't fit the system doesn't do it for me.

On the flipside, kids reneging on verbals come signing day is now commonplace... Here, the coach turns the table... I'm not fond of it(Kiffin's actions here), but I don't expect this kind of thing to occur moving forward to future classes.

saved me a post.

Got ya ... I guess I didn't realize that Kiffin couldn't say anything. And if the "didn't fit the system" issue came from Thigpen, then it would make since that the kid wouldn't come out and say "Oh, well it's because I have some character issues."

But he can say that he doesn't fit the system?

have you seen a direct quote from CLK on that? All the quotes I've seen are from the recruit/his family. It's against the rules and we would hate for Griff to use it in his next article

No ... I guess it just depends on who leaked it. Like I said in my previous post, if it was Thigpen, then this makes sense. He's not going to say that the real reason was a character issue, especially since he's visiting ND and UCLA from what I've heard. But, if this was leaked from Kiffin or the staff, then it seems like they could've just as easily leaked that it was a character issue.

Relish any chance you can get to take a shot at the staff?

While I agree the timing is horrible, maybe CLK deserves the benefit of the doubt here.

Yes it could mean anything. "System" means a lot more than Offense and Defense. The kid might be showing some character issues that Coach Kiffin doesn't want in his program. But with the rules can't state the reasons.

Griff and I don't see eye to eye on most things, but I think he covered both sides of the coin on his post.

Are you kidding me? Now THAT WOULD BE low. So what you're suggesting is that Kiffin say that he doesn't want him and that Kiffin then assail the kid's character in the press a week before national signing day to ensure that the kid is blackballed by other major programs. NICE!!!
