Vols are on their way down

Agreed... I'm not sure exactly how to feel about our line issues (other than that they were not good), but showing absolutely ZERO improvement on special teams was what sucked most.

This isn't the first time this has happened. The special teams were horrible in 2002. They didn't improve next season. Or the next. It continues. They've been really bad for quite awhile now. With guys like Wilhoit and Colquitt the Vols special teams of late shouldn't have been so terrible. I'd be willing to bet my life savings the special teams will be horrible next year if the coaching staff remains unchanged.

the team isnt really that young. 3 SR and 1 JR on the DL and 3 returning starters at LB.

Our defensive starters last night:

7 seniors
1 junior
2 sophomores

That's not young. Besides, Fulmer's already used the youth excuse about 3 times this decade. That's the limit.

Is that to say giving Fulmer the boot, or cutting this nonsense with two DL coaches and getting a special teams coach?

I don't think most teams have a guy that just coaches special teams. I could be wrong. For a long time, Steve Caldwell coached the special teams. I don't think that he did a great job, and the duties were then split up between Cutcliffe and Chavis. Nothing happened. It seems to me that the next time we're in the market for a position coach it would be a smart move to pick up a guy that has experience with good special teams.

Anyway, I think Steve Caldwell and Dan Brooks have both done pretty good jobs most years.

I'm very worried about Florida in two weeks---some UF fans at my office are going to be giving it to me big tomorrow. I'm hoping there is some way that UT can upset florida in gainesville and shut up their loud, arrogant fans.

Well all I have to say is that the Vols is on their way down. I am not basing this on the loss tonight and if you think different then I think you are kidding yourself like I have been. After this mediocre year the recruits will fall off even more and the other sec teams that are on the rise will start getting more and more of them. It is just a cycle and it happens to every big team. We started to climb up, we peaked, and now the steady decline.

I think we have plateaued more than declining. Either way we need to get back on an upward trend. Hard to win inthe SEC with all the teams improving significantly.

We are on the way down? When you are 14-11 over the last 25 games, you are already there.
