coach derek dooley and the tennessee volunteers continue to climb up the rankings as they jump from no. 21 to no. 16 after bulking up its secondary with four-star prospects kenny crawley (washington, d.c./howard d. Woodson) and ladarrell mcneil (dallas/wilmer hutchins).

Alabama and florida swap spots again and this time the crimson tide gets the edge at no. 3 over their sec rival.

Arkansas also joins the top 25 and vanderbilt drops to being on the cusp but remember, it's still very, very early in the recruiting process.

These class of 2012 rankings are based on who has committed so far and are not a projection of how strong a class will finish. Changes to the rankings will be made often as more prospects commit, and how the teams finish on national signing day is really the only ranking that matters.

But as always, let the debate begin.

this is looking like a top 10 class on ESPN.

we have 7 4stars already and are looking like we are going to finish strong.

Doubt that includes Corey Smith, Rivals 4* reciever, who has apparently re-committed to the Vols!!

Smith will enroll in Jan. '13, he will count towards the '13 class as a EE.

Corey isnt in this class.

Nope, he'll be in one of the next two classes.

According to Farrell they are still considering counting him in the rankings for this year:

My question:

Assuming he holds to his commitment, will Corey Smith count towards Tennessee's total point score considering his eligibility issues?

Farrell's response:

That's a question we are debating for our next set of rankings. No decision has been made yet.

When you think about it...the only difference between Smith and other recruits that end up going to JUCO is that with Smith we already know for a fact he has to go JUCO

Not saying it won't happen LV, but if CDD ends up with a top 10 class I will gladly eat crow about my complaining of him not getting faster starts in recruiting. Can I use wing sauce on it?

2. How are we with Patterson.
3. Do we get O'brian
4. Any other good news.

Thunder, that's nuts. Why would ESPN count someone in the class if he dosn't sign a LOI? And there's little chance that the staff will sign a player going JUCO, because of the new rules.

I think we have a ether chance of having a top 10 class on rivals because the fact that ESPN doesn't count JUCOs.. If we get Autry and Patterson that's two possible 5* on rivals and we won't get anything for them on ESPN..... JMO though

While ESPN doesn't technically rank JUCO's they still take them into account in their team rankings (per Thunder5). Last year we were 13th on Rivals and ESPN.

And again, I'm not sure why folks think Autry and Patterson will be 5stars on Rivals. Rivals had a total of ZERO 5star JUCO's in 2011, 1 5star in 2010 and also 1 in 2009. I hope those guys are 5stars if they become Vols but it's not likely. We'll know soon enough, Rivals updated rankings should be out soon...
