It occurred to me this morning that we Vol fans are coming to resemble the little ones just before Christmas... Searching everywhere in the house for some hint of what will be under the tree come Christmas morning.

Did you ever actually figure it out? You discovered the secret early, then were so disappointed at the lack of excitement when you padded downstairs to gather at the tree and open up your Christmas 'surprise'?...

The lesson? Just wait, It will be worth it.

The rumors bring us no closer to the truth, and if we knew already, we'd be half happy and half pissed at the name. The cycle is inevitable.

Some morning notes..

Wes Rucker spoke to some players who have been at the front of this past week's drama..

“I’m kind of glad this is my last year,” Briscoe said Wednesday afternoon.

“I came here to play for Coach Fulmer,” Briscoe said. “It wasn’t no facilities or no history or anything like that that made my decision to come here. It was Coach Fulmer. I came here to play for him. Ninety-five percent of the guys here, it’s the reason why we’re here, is to play for Coach Fulmer.

“I’m kind of glad this is my last year, especially with the scale of how things happened and the direction that we’re heading.”

UT officials on Monday morning asked reporters who confirmed the news to delay publication until the players could be internally informed. That didn’t happen.
Some saw it on television. Others heard it on the radio. A few got text messages from teammates, friends or family.
Nearly six hours after the first legitimate report was published, the players gathered with Fulmer for a 4 p.m. meeting.

The Vols had a quick players-only meeting after Fulmer’s in-house announcement before making their next move.

“We knew when his press conference was, and there was no hesitation with anybody,” sophomore quarterback Nick Stephens said.

Added Foster: “We were asked to move for some of you guys to get in there, and we said we weren’t going to move. That’s the kind of thing where we felt like we had more right to be there than the media did, and we did. We’re out there sweating with Coach every day.

“In team sports, you tend to get close like that. You fight and you cry with your family all the time, and that’s just probably the main reason why I came to Tennessee — because I felt that atmosphere here.”

Briscoe — one of the players seated in the media section Monday night — fired the following question at Hamilton: “Why is it that now, it’s more important that we make a dollar than it is to keep the Tennessee tradition and the Tennessee family the way it’s been for years?
“Josh, I think the Tennessee tradition does have to remain the center of all our decisions,” Hamilton responded.
Briscoe said he and Hamilton privately finished the conversation.
“I apologized by the way I said the comment, and then just walked out,” Briscoe said Wednesday. “But regret saying it? No. I don’t regret saying it, but I do regret the disrespect I did show, because I was raised a lot better than that.”

Eric Berry dismissed speculation that any young Vols are discussing transfer options. “I think if I was to transfer, that would just let my teammates down,” Berry said. “That shows no loyalty on my part. These are the guys I worked out with in the summertime, and I’ve been through so many things with. That would be just a kick in the face to say I was going to transfer.
“I really don’t think anyone is thinking about transferring.”

Speaking of the rumors, this bit at the end of the article would seem to indicate the search is not as far along as some think...
Hamilton declined interview requests Tuesday and Wednesday, but UT officials said he planned to speak with beat reporters at least once before “shutting it down” for the search process.

Coleman Still Excited about playing for the Vols..

“I’m excited for the future,” Coleman said after Wedesday night’s practice. “I think we’ve got a great group of guys here. The talent is extreme. I think they’re good guys to work with, and a lot of it is youth, and a lot of it will get developed come spring.
“And yes, I am excited to see who comes in (to coach).”

“This is Tennessee,” Coleman said. “This job’s probably a hot commodity right now, and a lot of people are probably applying for it.
“But like I said, it doesn’t matter who comes in, because this is a special place.”

Coleman, as Fulmer started hinting after Saturday’s loss at South Carolina, has taken a few more practice snaps with the second-team in practice this week. Sophomore Nick Stephens is the starter, and junior Jonathan Crompton has gotten most of the second-team work, but Fulmer said Coleman has gotten “a share.”
“I’ve gotten a couple of more reps with the 2s,” Coleman said. “But for the most part, we’ve been doing the same thing.
“I’m excited about being able to help the team. We’ve got three more games left, and hopefully we’ll be able to send Coach (Fulmer) out on a great note.”

Hey Briscoe -

The entire Tennessee fanbase is equally as happy as your are that this will be your last season in Knoxville.

Briscoe can leave now for all I care. Laughing boy needs to go and take his attitude with him. He just does not seem to understand that he is part of the problem and had part in what happened to Fulmer.

It appears from his quote he hasn't been going to class either.

“It wasn’t no facilities or no history or anything like that that made my decision to come here."

Please leave now and don't let the door hit you on the way out!

This, from a guy who wants to go into politics after college.

I think he does actually, and that partially explains him lashing out at the administration... It's called denial, and it manifests itself in many different ways.

We fans heap our frustrations on the administration pretty frquently as well... we just don't have a reporter standing in front of us recording every word.

Everything I said out of emotion during the games would be :censored: anyways.

you think briscoe will get booed on senior day?

I hope not.....I think we as fans need to forgive and forget what some of these young men are saying while they are so emotional about their coach leaving. As long as they are still wearing orange, I will continue to support them. I am hoping no one gets booed the remainder of this year....lets send them all out with class.

Funny how "it wasn’t no facilities or no history or anything like that" that led Briscoe to UT, yet in his question to Hamilton he's all concerned about tradition. Go away Josh.

“I came here to play for Coach Fulmer,” Briscoe said. “It wasn’t no facilities or no history or anything like that that made my decision to come here. It was Coach Fulmer.

And all this time, I assumed it was his love for the English lit department that drew him to UT.
