I feel like I remember we used to have some subforum, maybe it was part of the Endzone, that was all just people posting NSFW pics of girls šŸ˜‚

Not our proudest time. That was long before IG was a thing and sites like ā€œThe Chiveā€ we gaining popularity.

Man what was that subforum called?? That will drive me crazy.

Think of any movie with a bully, the bully always has a crew of sycophants that followed him around and always sought his approval. It was like that.

Thanks! For a while I've been trying to recall hatvol's moniker. I think he was a lawyer who was a faithful Vol fan (escpecially basketball). He was quick to criticize Coach Bruce Pearl, but he didn't merely rant 'n rave...his logic & knowledge of the game were spot-on. Anyone remember when he passed away?

I hate VNā€™s frequent total refreshes that erase the posts that Iā€™m writing, @Freak. This didnā€™t used to happen so often.

Shorthand: Was brought to FanNation message board by coworker who moved the CFB pick ā€˜em heā€™d been running by email to the platform.

FanNation changed to a sports betting site. Bucknut who I know IRL suggested that I check out VN.

The pick ā€˜em died.

Was a member of VN for more than a year before I began to post.

Joined VN hoping to connect with more Vols fans. Have met four VNsters IRL and consider them friends.

Iā€™m old. Iā€™m an alumnus. There is only Orange for me, my sonā€¦

I was one who joined after the kiffin hire. However, I was only 18 so I'm not sure how much of it was just timing for me.

On Facebook a ground some friends and me started had a post go ridiculously ā€œviralā€ when one of our guys convinced us all he knew Gruden was confirmed. Idr if I posted it here or not but the amount of guff I got for years bc of that announcement still haunts me.

I did end up selling a FB page that grew from all of that for like 3 grand, so a wins a win. šŸ˜‚

I was pretty active on the firerandysanders.com forum. After that was accomplished, joined here back in 2008 during Fulmer's last season.

The Newsgroups and other message boards for 15 years prior to 2003 were the same thing. Most of the names people like on VolNation from one decade to the next are the same folks with new handles. Those with lots of free time and a desire for attention rarely grow up. Most exciting time in Volnation was probably the plane tracking stuff just because of how many new names were getting involved in such an idiotic chase. Aside from that it's the same couple folks who you couldn't wait to hear call in to some show postgame. Nobody is recreating the wheel here. Reddit and sports message boards are just modern day AOL's, right?!

Think it was BoroVol. Feels like he was an insider for about 2 coaches back now. The reality is it's likely just folks who know current staff and/or players at any particular time. That's where the real insider stuff comes from. Then again, Boro could simply be present day Volanta, for example, or some other ghost from Christmas past.

I would be surprised if UT Athletics did not hire a PR team to hop around on various websites and social media platforms to spread good vibes. It would likely be an entry level position and wouldnā€™t last for more than 2-3 years.

UT Athletics is a $300 million/ year machine and public relations is a major part of it.

Every sizable company and University employs ambassadors to help curb public opinion, but most of these are known commodities. I don't think there's anyone really getting paid to post on here though. Lots of kids pretend to be getting paid for posts in forums, but that's largely nonsense.

Iā€™m a known conspiracy theorist on these forums, so keep that in mind. Iā€™m thinking that the unknown commodities (entry level) are those who get paid to leak tentative information while the known commodities (social media employees with titles) are paid to spread the official news.

The rest of us see that generated excitement and mistakenly try to copy those who are actually in the know. Itā€™s fun and keeps the fans engaged between games.

One more thing about this site.....a front page that never gets the recruiting classes and schedules updated. I mean we STILL have the 2025 schedule up. AND the recruiting class from 2024. I mean seriously...WTH.

He certainly did not like Bruce Pearl or Phillip Fulmer and was not afraid to tell anyone the reasons why. I do not remember when he passed away, he had taken his talents elsewhere by that point and I really only follow volnation.

Because he was also involved in paying players and costing UT recruits. As well as giving tons of money and gifts to recruits and players to sleep with him. Today he wouldnā€™t have lasted a day without jail time

I joined in 2011 but followed since the Lane Kiffin hiring. I remember the site blowing up following the whole Kiffin hiring and the most unhinged topic was a year later with his resignation. Does he hold the record with the most hits, opinions, etc?

"What's wrong with getting money and beaches just to come to Kville to play a little ball?" ~ Bryce Brown. Pretty difficult to compare/contrast what would be accepted today versus in the past. Peyton Manning would have been kicked off the football team and have been essentially untouchable after the water balloon and trainer issues. Honestly I miss when every stud had a free automobile and summer job detailing vehicles they never had to show up for!
