I thought about covering this in Guitar Shots but I didn't want to single anyone out. This is a response to some of you newbies out there who think that old timers run this board. I posted in the main forum, because I want everyone to read it. Please pay attention.
Like EVERY OTHER sports board in the universe, this place has people that have been around for a while. We are very comfortable conversing. Quite a few of us have made efforts to meet personally. Factor this in with the fact that we are reasonably intelligent, and understand the behaviors and posts that the mods will tolerate, and you have a formula that works well for the nation.
Some people visit, and seem uneasy about the relationships that are forged on the board, or they think that some people "get away" with more than others. To an outsider that may seem to be the case. Unfortunately, what you don't see are the PM's that some of the "old timers" get if they get out of line on the board.
What you have to understand is that while blatant friction is unwelcomed, a certain amount of disagreement has to be espoused for a sports board to thrive. Without it, we wouldn't visit nearly as much. In ways it keeps us intellectually stimulated.
Once again, excuse the rambling, but while on the Nation act like an adult. If you fell insulted it generally means one of these things happened:
1. You made an unitelligible post.
2. You were trolling.
3. You got your feelings hurt, and you want to hit back.
4. You decided to join the board to teach someone a lesson.
I have been on the board for some time now. I have only been personally attacked a handful of times. There have been a handful of times that I have PMed a member asking them to remove/edit questionable material. I have never been involved in a situation where I have asked someone to stop posting or stop "hurting my feelings". I have never reported one post to a mod for language, disagreement, editing or merging.
Simply put, this is a terrific place to post about the Tennessee Volunteers. We have great fans, and some very good football minds, yet we are not browbeat by the minutia of strategy. On top of it all it is generally civil and friendly.
This board is easily the best moderated board you will find. Without exception they are fair, proficient, and very discerning. On top of it all they are volunteers in more than one sense of the word.
As an old timer, I would like to welcome you aboard. Stick around and develop some relationships. While posting remember this is not kindegarten. If you are looking for "he said/she said" or "mommy, bubba just hit me while you weren't looking" you can either get a girlfriend or have a few kids. This is mostly a board of educated and articulate Vol fans. We are not here to babysit your self esteem. We are here to talk about football and basketball.
Sincerely,
Lexvol
