Anyone can support a team that is winning - it takes no courage. But to stand behind a team to defend a team when it is down and really needs you, that takes a lot of courage.

I'm just not sure that the word courage applies to any part of the realm of fandom.

I think we've all strongly supported the vols through some rough times, but ignoring / accepting the current trend is in no way helpful or courageous.

very true. i'll have my ainge jersey on, while my boy will have his georgia gear on during the game. i'll cheer and be disgusted if we lose, but in the big picture i think its time for a change, but that can wait til after the season.

kind of like having a family member on drugs......do you confront them or stay silent?

I guess I have had the courage for many years now.....I have been standing behind this team for a long time now and I think people have forgotten I'm back here. I am tired of being courageous, I want a winning team again.

you wanna talk some courage. I live in Fayetteville, AR and wearing a vols hat used to get me some jeers, bad language and thinly veiled jealousy. Now, it gets me laughed at if it gets any reaction at all. I continue to wear the hat. How's that for courageous?

I guess I just dont understand this concept of fan loyalty. It is downright puritanical! It is sport and it is entertaining and fun to have a team to pull for. When your team never wins meaningful games, it is not fun. Does anyone even remember the last really satisfying tennessee win? Why should I show blind support to a team that is not entertaining to watch, and only frustrating? Its not like life and death, or the welfare of the state of tennessee is on the line here. What's with all the with us or against us crap lately. When the team wins it is fun, when they don't it is not. If I can spend my sat afternoon watching an exciting game by a team from a school I attended I will, if every weekend I get to watch them lose by 39 points to a rival, where is the fun in that? I would rather spend that time with the family. What does honor, loyalty have to do with sports at all? I understand the ferver of college football and like that about it, but the constant pedantic lectures about "real" fans gets old.
