Saw a dad and his son at a sports bar and the dad had on SCar stuff, but the son was wearing Bama gear.

I felt for the man.

I wondered if there were any parents on here with that problem?

Is there a tactic or a certain point in a child's life where you drive it home who to cheer for and why they have to/should?

Kids are bandwagon fans by nature because they want to win. You have to drive the point home early and make sure they understand that it's a lot of fun win or lose.

We all root for The Big Orange in this house. I do have a friend that Is a Bama fan and his son is a Tennessee fan, his dad has tried to drive that point home to him but he is all Tennessee. I say just let them root for who they want to.

My beautiful three year old daughter's favorite thing in the house is her Smokey Pillow Pet, and she can sing Rocky Top, including the Woo!, with the best of 'em! Favorite phrases also include: "Go Big Orange!", "Let's Go UT!", and "Go VOLS!!!" She's a VFL, no doubt!

Not a parent, but my brother and I are both UT fans. Our dad doesn't make us root for the Vols, I just happened to be growing up as we were winning the National Championship. I've been hooked ever since. lol

If my kids rooted for anyone else they'd be up for adoption.

I kid; I'd just lock them in the basement.

My daughter will be 12 next month and she has loved watching UT football since she was tiny. Took her to her first game when she was 4. My only complaint is she likes the Cowboys. I F'n hate the Dallas Jerrys!!

I grew up in an Ole Miss house, but I was born and raised in the Nashville area and loved UT. Plus the historical significance of being a Volunteer vs a Rebel was something that I was more in favor of. I gravitated towards the Vols ever since I made the trip with my parents to watch Peyton and the Vols clobber Ole Miss in 96 or 97. My first time in Neyland blew my little brain to pieces. I was hooked, I had to go back. When I visited my friends who were in school at UT I knew I had to be there.

My step dad's heart was broken, but he came around and pulls for UT along with Ole Miss. He buys all the UT mags and keeps up with the news for UT more than Ole Miss in the offseason. I think it's easier to keep up with the Vols because he lives in TN and because UT is obviously a much more elite program with a deeper fanbase. I think he enjoys it though

I have no kids that I know of as of today. But when I do, I will be sure to make fun of every other school in the SEC, wear nothing but orange on game day, praise the heaven's when we win, curse like a delinquent when we don't..... just enough to scare them into cheering for the Vols. That's what my Dad did and it worked like a charm. LOOK AT ME NOW!!! :cool2:

I'm a Vol and son right now is a Gator fan. Hard raising him in enemy territory. Used to push him but realized let time take it's course. He'll grow out of it.

She's five and she yells and screams just like Daddy for the Vols. The new one, 3 months, is too young to know anything other than she is hungry, but she's dressed in Orange and will be right there beside her sister screaming in a few years. It's the ONLY way. Go VOLS!

Not a parent but I grew up a vol fan and my older bro was a bama fan. Not until we moved to tuscalooser did my bro realize that those were not our people and decided to be a vol. My kid will not be allowed to be a bama fan.

My son became a vol fan by way of hog fans
He's 10

He would wear vol gear to school mainly because I bought it for him and dad wore same kind of gear.

Well the little piggie fans at school told him Tennessee sucked He came home upset. Told his mom he needed more gear. Lol.

I armed him with Tennessee over all record over the hogs and he would remind his buddies of this. So they left him alone after that.

His school is hard core hog fans. His principal is Tyler Wilson's mom (arky qb)

A few years ago (I think Kiffin's year), I saw a dad walking around with a son decked out in Florida gear. I feel for you. Stay strong.

My son is almost three and everyone he is around is a UT fan so he really doesn't have a shot at liking anything else. Plus he really loves yelling "Get 'em Smokey".

My son is only 1, but that boy came home in orange and white. Also, i nixed the Mickey mouse birthday theme for a volunteer first birthday. Even had invites that were ticket stubs. I have a cousin in middle school who is a bama fan and his dad (as well as all my extended family) is all vol. He just keeps saying he doesnt know where he went wrong. Poor kid catches hell from all of us, especially me.
Its worth saying that my own dad is a bandwagon bammer. The thing is that he couldnt care less about football and is really only doing it to piss off my brother and me. Mission accomplished dad.

He's 14 and doing a bit of the stick it to dad routine. Other then that we have a great relationship. (Knock on wood).

Your daughter is brilliant and you should be very proud of her football tastes.

I'm 25 and I think a lot of kids growing up when I did had a lot to hang their hat on seeing as UT won in 98. I think it solidified the loyalty for most of us who are in our 20s now.
