In 1962 former Vol broadcaster George Mooney found a quicker and more exciting way to get to Neyland Stadium other than fighting the notorious Knoxville traffic. Mooney navigated his little runabout down the Tennessee River to the stadium and spawned what would later become the "Volunteer Navy."
Today, approximately 200 boats of all shapes and sizes make up this giant floating tailgate party. Tennessee, Washington and Pittsburgh are the only institutions with stadia adjacent to bodies of water.

So basically, a bunch of boats go a cross a river to get to the stadium while drinking beer?

Some people travel from a very long ways away, going through the TVA locks in the dams to get to Knoxville. If you are ever at Neyland, look down at the River; you'll be quite impressed by some of the boats.

How would they go about doing that?
I thought the only navigable river in GA was the Chatahoochee?
Am I missing something?

Now you may have me there. I remember pregame some years back, Where they went out and spoke with some on the river.
There was a couple really nice boats all up in GA flags etc, They said that they had made the trip on the river. I dont recall where they said they had left out from?
