haha yeah I live in B'ham.. I'm only in High School.

It pretty much sucks with all the Bammers being around and being typical Bammers. "Don't let the truth get inbetween you and an argument over Bama's supremacy" is their creed.

I actually live ~10 minutes from Samford

Well you are in luck, my friend, because I currently attend Samford University!

Life is nice, the campus is beautiful, the people are almost always friendly, and the weather is usually pleasant. She'll probably want to get an off campus apartment; I recommend Wild Ridge off of Highway 31 because they are close to campus and pretty nice. Pharm school is pretty tough here, but she'll be prepared once she gets out.

Samford sports are also improving, especially football, so that's exciting. I'm a music major here, so she should come hear some concerts! haha

If she's looking for UT things to get involved with, there is a Birmingham chapter of the Rocky Top fan club (its called something like that) here, I think they meet every Thursday. I haven't been yet but one of my fellow Vol buddies is and he said they just meet and talk about good ol' ROCKY TOP! I wear my Vol apparel all the time, and you'd be surprised how many people do. Tennessee fans are more common here than I thought, and most of them wear their colors more proudly and often than the Bammers or Aubies.

Anyways, hope this helps; PM me if you have any more questions. I'd be glad to answer.

Its called the Birmingham Big Orange Club. You'll enjoy the meetings. Im 30 now, and lived the past 20 years of my life in Hoover. Growing up in Hoover/Bham was really really tough as a Vols fan....especially in the 80's, early 90's. I have a bunch of friends that went to Pharmacy School at Samford and Cumberland School of Law. BTW, SAMFORD sucks....great scenery, but nothing to do. I would definately recommend living somewhere OTM...Hoover, Vestavia, Mtn. Brook. HWY 280 WILL BE THE BIGGEST NIGHTMARE YOU HAVE EVER ENCOUNTERED ON A FRIDAY AFTERNOON!!! STAY AWAY. Party scene and things to do are located mostly on Hwy 280 and Downtown...The Lakeshore District has a few good places, Innisfree, Barking Kudu, etc. Courtyard 280, OnTap 280, and The Back Nine, are a few of my favorite places.

I finally got out of Bham after 20 years, and made it to the beach. Good luck in Birmingham and wish you guys the best.

I live in the 'ham now and its expensive to live here. Unless you want to live in crime ridden areas, you're gonna have to pay. The samford U areaa is nice. Homewood, Vestavia, Mt. brook, and Hoover are decent places to live. My office is in Hoover as is my apt. I just moved here a year ago and still don't really know where the
"hotspots" are. I'm married with a two yr old so we don't go out anyway. Undrcovervols knows way more about the night life. All I know is where to eat.
By the way STAY OUT OF BESSEMER AND ENSLEY. PERIOD!

I just graduated from UAB and going to grad school at UT and would suggest not living in Hoover if you are working downtown. I-65 in the morning is a nightmare. I would suggest living off of 31. It is really convenient to Samford and easy to get to everything else. I lived about a mile from Samford my last year in Birmingham and that is a great area to live in. The rent is higher than here in Knoxville so be prepared to pay for what you want. All the nightspots mentioned earlier are good.

I've lived here since 99. Overall, it's a good place to live. It's big enough to have just about anything you are looking for but still feels small.

Lot's of variety of places to live. Houses aren't cheap but aren't expensive. Property taxes are ridiculously low - just about lowest in the country so you can buy more house. Tons of apartments of every style.

Plenty of good and some outstanding restaurants. Multiple hot spots. Easy access to Atlanta (2.5 hours), great beaches (5 hours), mountains (2 hours). The town is pretty.

Other than the annoying Bammers and hearing about Bear Bryant every damn day, it's a good place to live. Feel free to contact me if you want to ask any specific questions.

I have a question. Isn't Bear Bryant dead?

got 2 sisters-in-law in b-ham (chelsea and b-ham southern) w/ hubbies from there. all you hear about is either auburn or bama. i don't hate either program really (not like fla) but if i lived there i would get tired of talking about that 24/7/365. at least here in nashville you get a ton of titans/predators talk with some occasional grizzlies calls. and of course the steady stream of vols calls. could almost say during football season there are more titans calls than vols. any locals out there agree?

I lived several years in Leeds (just outside of B'ham). Many friends of mine went to Cumberland Law School there at Samford. She will love the campus.

Vols are well represented in NOLA also.

I guess my knowledge of where fanbases lie is slightly distorted.
