'Vol Calls' not returning

I thought they screened calls on VC?

I don't remember too many calls being critical of coaching decisions
I called back in the Fulmer years. The screen was basically “what do you want to ask?”. Think I said something very open ended like “I was going to ask about the LB”… they put me on.

At that point I could have said anything.

The longtime call-in show featuring Tennessee coaches fielding questions from fans will not be part of the revamped Vol Network lineup as it seeks to pair live programming with on-demand availability to meet fans' changing content needs.

“The way to better serve Tennessee fans is to try to do things in a way where they have more access and they have more availability, while helping our coaches," said Mike Keith, the new "Voice of the Vols."

UT and Vol Network announced on Aug. 7 the lineup for the 2025-26 season, which includes "The Mike Keith Show" from 3-5 p.m. ET on Thursday nights with Keith and coach Josh Heupel during football season. Fans can submit questions via UT's social media accounts to the show, which will run from Aug. 28 through May 1

That's fine. It felt like a show that existed for just a handful of callers, and most of those callers were hard to listen to.

Pathetic. This is the coaches. Other than Vitello, who is super accessible, these coaches don’t want to talk to anybody. For the kk ye they make, it’s really an insult to the common fan.
If you've ever worked with the public, you would know that people are dumb. You try sitting through an hour of the interactions that happened on Vol Calls and then tell me how you feel.

Can't believe it lasted as long as it did. Honestly, I'm surprised any "coach's shows" still exist. They were made during and for a time when you couldn't watch every game on TV, or couldn't catch every coaching press conference.

Glad they are ditching it. I haven’t listened in years and I don’t think the coaching staff, whether they are successful or failures, should have to sit and listen to the same handful of self-important people argue. We live in a digital era, there has to be a more effective way of the coaching staff engaging with the fans, which is what this was really about when it first started.

Exactly. They’re a solid 10-15 years past their usefulness. Vol Calls was neat 30 years ago when it was the only time you even heard the coach’s voice.

There's a certain demo that still likes them, but is small. I watched the second episode of the Netflix SEC doc last night, and at one point their cameras were at Napier's show. They panned the audience and I don't think a single person there was under the age of 65.

Can you imagine Vol Calls during Majors' 0-6 run? Bet that was something..
VC began in 1989 so Johnny was spared there but KNS took no prisoners. After first game in 88 John Adams was calling for Donahue to be fired on down to getting new uniforms. Didn't get any better. Chattanooga Times did a poll in late September, it was 80% against Majors/Harris/Donahue.

It's like some other things that were once cool but have eventually played out and only a handful of people find it useful...my 70 yr old neighbor still uses a flip phone.
I listened a few times over the years, and will probably miss it at some point, but sounds like the new format is more like what other schools and coaches are doing with a more scripted show each week, so I'm fine with that too.
