Kesling said UT's biggest challenge is limiting that "one play."
"The (Outback Bowl) loss to Penn State last year was extremely difficult to swallow," Kesling said. "It really could have gone either way, but a fumble late really hurt."
He said there's a sign in the UT locker room that reads, "Each game is decided by one play. Which play is it going to be? Play hard every play."
If Tennessee can do that, Kesling might get to call a championship game. "I got to call six Lady Vols basketball championships," he said, "and I hope I get to call six football championships, too."

Sounds like Kesling thinks we're gonna have a good year.

Yeah I miss John. Wish Mike Keith would have waited another year instead of doing the Titans games.

I still like Mike Keith, but let's face it. He made the right call going with the NFL.

It's not impossible for him to do both Vols and Titans game.

If Wes Durham (GT,Falcons) and Gene Deckerhoff (FSU,Bucs) can do it,Mike can too.

I say the next Championship we play for...SEC or National....If John Ward is still alive and well...he comes back to call the game...let Kesling have the day off

John Ward was special that's for sure and I feel a little sorry for Bob. There's just no right way to follow a legend like that. It was kind of a no win situation for Bob, but he stepped in and is doing a decent job.

No he isn't, I only listen to him when I have to. But in those rare instances that I do, he manages to get names and numbers wrong and to get a score or time remaining call from him is akin to waiting for the second coming. He sucks.

I said decent and what I was thinking was adequate. But that sounded kind of harsh..."He's doing a really adequate job." By the way, who would you suggest take his place?

I agree. Hell, if you're going to screw up calling the game, at least go Harry Caray and get hammered the whole time and make it interesting or at least funny.

Honestly I don't have a suggestion. I rarely listen to sports via radio. I just know he is awful. Hamilton should put this on his list of improvements to make.

I agree with that across the board. Wes Durham does the same thing; so does Skip Caray for that matter. Goes back to the last Kesling v. Ward thread and the discussion about modern announcers training for TV while Ward, Munson, & Deckerhoff trained to call games on the radio... where they have to paint a word picture.

Jeez I miss the sound of sloshing ice and bourbon during a play-by-play broadcast. Vic Prinzi, Bill Anderson, where art thou?

Phil Williams, Wolfman Jack....:eek:lol:

Where is Haywood Harris?

"This is John Ward along with Haywood Harris bringing you the play by play".......then it was always followed by that dam commercial

"Natural Gas" -british accent-

:lolabove:

I remember that commercial.
Back to the topic..I have always thought John Ward should call every homecoming game.

:cheer:

That is an excellent idea LIO.....One that seems very realistic....I wonder what it would take to get Ward to come call at the very least, 1 game a year? I would find a way to record him calling the game

I'm sure Bob Kesling's contract would have to be reworked which means too much effort for the powers-that-be to fool with it.
