Butch Jones is in the process of failing as the head football coach at the University of Tennessee. From all indications, this will be his last season at the helm. He will be paid handsomely to not coach the Volunteers any more.

However, the reaction to this situation is a typical millennial reaction to other problems in the world:

--Many of you are taking this as a personal insult.

--It's not enough to have him fired, you want Butch Jones, his coaches and his family embarrassed and run out of town in shame.

--In a typical snowflake move, you are calling for boycotts and protests. Grow up.

--You want everyone to know you are not getting your way (not fired on your timetable) and you are more upset than anyone else. Congratulations, we noticed.

--Folks who are struggling to pass freshman math at UT or struggling to hold down a low paying job are demanding excellence from someone else. Anyone else see the irony in this?

--One guy even said, his 7th grader has already made the proclamation that he is no longer considering signing with the University of Tennessee

--2 or 3 in the media try to just report the facts and because they won't demand that Butch be fired immediately, y'all begin to attack them. And one of them is a former QB who gave his all for Tennessee

--The implication that you are not a fan if you go to the homecoming game is such a millennial move. Do you plan to block the streets to the game too.

--Anyone who tries discuss anything about UT football that doesn't include Fire Butch immediately is met with, "you aren't a fan or why don't you just go root for vandie (their spelling not mine)."

--You demand the "rich boosters" to shell out the $12 million to buy out the coaching staff because "they can easily afford it." It's their money, they earned it, try that.

--But, you do try to raise money to put an ad in the paper to show your displeasure. How's that going?

Oh, grow up. None of us give enough money to effect anything about the University of Tennessee. Your stomp fits, protests, boycotts, etc will not have any effect on anything other than making you look silly....and you do. Real life doesn't work that way and no one really cares how upset you are about UT football, our President, or anything else.

I'm a fan and I'm not happy with the current state of affairs at UT. But, I will be there on Saturday and plan to have a good time at the game with friends and family. Loyalty used to mean something.

That's my opinion, oughta be your's!!

Yeah this is all the same as the pumpers telling us to go find another team and stuff. We've been patient enough and the fact Butch will have 30 million dollars thanks to UT means we have been nice enough to him.

Or like in the real world they are tired of being bent over by the administration and told to be happy with what they are lucky to have. Demanding change isn't what's wrong with volnation or the world. It's called accountability. And when you let the admin know losing isn't acceptable and their revenue tanks they will get it.

Went along with most up to this statement...:lolabove:
I remember Johnny and Phil getting run out of town and it was not pretty. I am an alum and love my team and university but not a booster. The head coach is an employee that is paid to perform. Ours didn't. The university admin needs to make a statement.

I thought I was the only person who thought much of the fan base was acting like over-emotional millennials. I'm glad someone else noticed too.

"He who hasn't the balls to affect change, will criticize those who do."

I'm not even one of the people "protesting" as you call it, but GTFO your high horse, Gramps. You're not impressing anyone.

I agree with everything you are saying. The last statement was a nod to the famous philosopher Red Neckerson.

The OP's point is moot because protests have historically brought change in good ways. Look at the peaceful Civil Rights protests of the 60s for example.

You are actually comparing the "Fire Butch" hysteria to the Civil Rights movement of the 60s. :eek:lol:

You can go straight to the front of the stupid line!!

You can move to the front of the stupid line because that's not what I said.

All I was saying was that protests have affected change in positive ways. Reading comprehension isn't your strong suit is it? :lolabove::lolabove::lolabove:

Protesting, schmotesting. I couldn't care less who is burning couches, making signs, or not attending games. However, I'm not content with mediocrity. We all have our own ways of dealing with things.

You're comparing whining on a message board about a football coach to marching on Selma? The Little Rock 9?

If you're going down that path, how did the Tiananmen Square protest turnout? Or Hungary in 1956?
