On the HR Derby...
We're going to have a home run derby for the second year in a row.
And we're going to do it this Saturday, a little bit last minute. And again, with the stadium, only the porches are available for people to come see. But it's something that went well last year.
And with it being a neutral site game, we're going to make it happen before we start our scrimmage season and have fun with that. So we'll post what time it is and the gates will be open. And I say gates in parentheses.
But maybe we get some youngsters out on the field there to help shag like we did last year as well. But all in all, this time next week, we'll be able to announce a home run derby champion. Our two champs have been Jared Dickey and Blake Burke.
It's gone pretty well. So we might as well give it a go again.
Also talks about the tribute from the POTS and about trying to get them on the baseball field at some point.
I owe the band a huge thank you. And I might bring Kirby with me, but it's just so awesome. They recognized what our team did on the field.
And trust me, John, I passed by them every game and there's a lot of fist bumps and we're all fired up about football Saturday, but we all always say we got to get the band on the baseball field. And because we have turf, that's something that is somewhat manageable. So I don't know when it will be or how it will go down, but we've got to make that happen.
And maybe that's our thank you to them for doing what they did. And that was an aggressive move supporting the coaching staff and the players and team, but certainly loved every minute of it.
Said he'd heard a rumor but didn't know they were going to spell out his name.
One person had made the comment or rumor, he's a loyal fan, so I kind of fact-checked it through the athletic department, and they kind of kept it a strong secret. So the topic had been brought up, but I did not know or think that was going to go down, and I certainly didn't think it would go down, like you said, with the execution that it did. So humbled, and man, it's been a year with Todd and a lot of other things.
Just been racking up a bunch of memories, and forever grateful, and I gotta be honest, these good times just make you hungry for more. So we'll see what we can do over there with this group, especially now that we're getting a little bit more in a rhythm with practice this fall.
Also talked about some former Vols in the MLB. He said after his recent pitching appearance that Cal Stark is referring to himself as the next Ohtani. lol.
