this morning said that Pearl's been great, but that Billy Gillispie was coach of the year in the SEC. Also said Kansas would/should get a #1 seed over Tennessee.

yeah, because a team with the same record should get a #1 seed over the team with the #1 RPI and #1 or #2 SOS (depending on where you look)...screw Vitale.

Clearly, Dick believes that 1 seeds should be distributed to historic powers, and that the name on the jersey is more important than the body of work.

I'll continue to believe that the selection committee is a little more cerebral until they prove otherwise.

not a surprise after listening to him slobber all over Roy Williams during the game and mention what he did at Kansas a dozen times.

losses at home to Gardner Webb and San Diego....Yep sounds like coach of the year material to me.

I agree that it is hard to make a case for Gillispie based on those two losses alone.

It will be not be a huge loss for Billy Clyde. He will earn the honor more than once if he remains on the Kentucky sidelines.

I agree....and the job he has done this year in conference is remarkable....but this year, I think there are a number of better candidates... and I agree he will eventually win it at KY.

Could you explain why? I thought I heard it was about the whole recruiting/tape thing, but I'm not sure.

Yes. Vitale was quoted as saying that Bruce had committed career suicide after it all went down. As you can now see... he was obviously wrong. :)

Kansas' resume is inferior to UT's. Vols get a 1 seed (Luckily Dickie V isn't on the selection committee).

Yep and you forgot, losing at mighty Vanderbilt by 40 points:eek:lol: These media idiots always are kissing the traditional powers tail ends...just like they do notre dame and alabubba in football. :birgits_giggle:

It'll be the first time since I can remember that a coach from the SEC wins COY while losing to a Southern Conference team and a WCC team. 12 wins in the league is great, but they didn't beat anyone on the road in the conference that will be in the NCAA's. It's an absolute joke if he wins COY. Just because Pearl and UT were "supposed" to win the conference doesn't mean he doesn't deserve it.

Forget Dickie V, Forget the #1 seed, and forget it all...Just win no matter what seed and it really does not mean a thing...Nine game season now!

Here's the thing, it doesn't matter what he thinks. He's not on the NCAA selection committee.

Honestly, if it were about Vitale's opinion, a roster of ACC squads would litter the tourney, when a total of 3 deserve to go. Moreover, Duke would be a 1 seed hands down. Vitale cannot wait to give UNC and Duke kudos.

He's a positive guy, so everyone gets some love, but he doesn't very well mask his Tobacco Road fetish.

I agree that he has always had a real bias towards the North Carolina schools, but honestly, based on their perfomance over the years, who could blame him?

Besides, for most casual fans this is the time of year they finally begin paying attention. Those guys are going to focus on the standards to get people to pay attention. They ain't going to talk Tennessee, K State, etc. They are going to go on and on about the teams people expect to hear about.

K State isn't in Tennessee's league this year.

It's a shame, guys like Vitale. They start out delivering some pretty good insight about the game. As their popularity grows, they become full of themselves. Some even become parodies of themselves and are basicly cartoons. Sad to say Vitale has become a cartoon.
