Vince Young almost quit football

Like he's the first football player to have those sort of issues?

Believe it or not, most football players do not come from priveleged backgrounds that allow for a calm home life and easier ability to focus on football.

I feel bad for the guy, but these reasons are copouts.

what's worse is so many are acting as if he did step away. He didn't give up, he kept playing.

So many are not acting like he did. Many are saying IF he had stepped away for these reasons, it would have been idiotic. And yes, he DID stay and continue playing. To paraphrase from Tombstone, he is an oak.

Now he tells the Tennessean that it was only a passing thought and if he did think about it, it was only for a second.

Which one is it Vince?

But beyond that, I don't really see much difference between the two players. Young not a particularly good passer. His first instinct is still to pull the ball down and run with it, which A) is going to get him hurt, and B) is just not going to consistently win you games in the NFL like it can in college. To be successful in the long-term, he's going to have to develop into a straight-up dropback QB first and foremost, with the running an extra dimension to his game. And I'm pessimistic about anybody's chances of basically learning to pass all over again at the NFL level.
One of the biggest knocks on VY last year was that he didn't pull it down and run enough. If anything his first instict has become to hang around in the pocket too long.
