I have to say im almost offended that not 1 time in the press conference did i hear clk say that we are going to be competing for championships. In fact, when asked about expectations, he said something along the lines of the wins will come in time. How about making a statement to the country and letting every recruit out there that we expect to win championships here at tennessee. Somehow he manages to call out urban meyer and florida but doesnt have the guts to not accept losing.

It sounds like clk is thinking this is more rebuilding than refining and doesnt think were gonna compete for the sec next year. I dont like that right from the gate. I think today was the day to make a statement to the whole country that Tennessee is coming. Instead we got somebody who seemed scared to put his neck on the line

He is saying, that if we are good enough to win 9 games, we will win 9 games. If we are good enough to win 10 games, then we will win 10 games.. and so on.

His point is is that we will not be underachievers, we will play one level above what we are capable of at all times.

MH told him to make the florida comment. Of course his goal is to win championships, but he didn't want to give fans expectations that he couldn't guarantee. If you think Kiff is scared, you might want to watch the PC again. He is clearly confident and prepared.

Aren't you the one who said that we should be concerned that Crompton would go pro after this year?

i know what he's sayin, but mediocre is not gonna cut it and a couple 7 0r 8 win seasons and hell be gone in 4 years. This was not the hire to slowly build us back up, this hire, and this new staff, are here to win now. He should be shouting that we will not accept losing EVER. Not trying to back away from it.

Its usually not smart to make promises you can't keep to a room full of boosters and national media.

lol it was preseason and i was bored and Crompton was very highly thought of by many. I was never sold on him. read the thread starter, it was basically IF HE PLAYED WELL ENOUGH TO BE IN THAT POSITION, WOULD HE CONSIDER. back to today, i want a coach who has no fear to say that he expects to win championships, we are not south carolina or ole miss. We are a premier school in the premier league and we should expect to be competing for conference championships EVERY YEAR

As much fun as that is to say, we can't honestly expect that out of a 1st year coach working to repair several years of damage to highly toted recruiting classes.

His goal is probably 10 wins. With several quality victories.

when kiffin was asked about expectations, he should have said that we expect to win the sec next year. It just sets the tone from day 1 and puts everybody on watch. i thought he handled that 1 very bad but i did think he came off pretty likeable for the most part. i just would have liked to see him say CHAMPIONSHIPS

Do you honestly think MH would hire Kiff if he didn't think he played for championships? It seems like you would only be pleased if Kiffin promised a national championship every year.:ermm:

If he is as good as everyone is saying, you don't need to worry about him mentioning "championships" at his first press conference.

Then say that and set the bar. Dont shy away from greatness. winners expect to win!!!

He handled it perfectly. Giving goals to the media before even evaluating and actually COACHING his team is simply ignorant.

He knows he is going to win. He wakes up every morning and pisses confidence. You'll see that when you see our recruiting class finalize in February.

What do you think we are gonna do under him? 5-7?

no. i really expect to be good next year and if we can by florida, i see us winning the east and playing for a CHAMPIONSHIP!! I think the talent is there. our juniors and sophomores next year will have 2 years to make a serious run. Thats why hamilton is signing off on this dream staff. Hes really banking on Berry and company plus a couple incoming freshman. I believe it can happen. The sec is gonna be down again next year and will be wide open if tebow leaves. stafford is gone for sure so georgia wont be as good.

Tebow isn't leaving. And it doesn't matter who is playing for UGA next year. Superior coaching staffs always trump Richt. As one vol fan to another you should expect nothing less than a cotton bowl birth with losses coming to UF,BAMA, and possibly Ole Miss.
Our defensive coaching staff will show that their are more players on defense than Eric Berry and Dan Williams.

I'm starting the Heisman campaign for Eric Berry tommorrow. Seriously, under the Tampa 2, Berry should destroy any offense we play.

i liek that he wasn't up there ranting and raving about champ games and acting nervous. if he was overconfident and cocky it would suggest a lack of respect for where he is and what he needs to do. it lets us know how serious he is taking this job and how respectful of the job he is.

I agree. Tebow isn't going pro. Unless he opens his own circumcision clinic or something. I don't think we lose to Ole Miss though.

Yeah and with the possible plethora of talent that could follow CLK to Knoxville, a championship might very well be possible next year. I mean coach satan has bama in the championship game after two years bc of his defense. I believe we have more talent than he had when he first got there and CLK has till Feb to sell his swag to every recruit that will listen. But like he said there are too many variables at place that could keep that from happening. It all depends on how quick the current players buy into his principles. I mean this year was a perfect example of what happens when a team doesn't buy into what a coach is selling. Clawson didn't seem much like Kiffin. I mean who wouldn't want to listen to someone that is so well respected in the coaching world. His shout outs at the presser were all for a reason. I mean he sounds like someone that is going to sell the UT brand to the nation. He is confident cocky and has a chip on his shoulder and is ready to prove the doubters wrong. Things are looking up!!!!! '10 could be a great year. Go Vols!!!!!!!
