Shoop's defense has given up over 600 yards in 2 of the last 3 games. What's the general opinion on Shoop? Is it a personnel issue or a scheme issue?

Injuries last year and GT scheme this year. Hold off judgement until we play non Wishbone team this year. Fla nd esp GA will be a measuring stick

He didn't get to bring his own staff with him. He was literally teaching players and coaches last year at the same time and had a ton of injuries. Than new assistants were hired and we have new players this year. Given the roster make up when we hired him, it made no sense whatsoever that we didn't let him bring any of his guys from Penn State.

Injuries last year plus it was the first year he has here. Last night they played great at the start. I think they just got tired over the course of the game. He offense certainly didn't help them by going 3 and out so much.

Don't worry, when UT holds Indiana State scoreless you'll think the D is the 2nd coming of the '85 Bears. It's the ebb and flow around here that makes it so entertaining.

Shoop at Vandy and Shoop at Penn State is a much more effective DC than Shoop at TN. Is it injuries? Does CBJ meddle? Is Franklin the only coach to get the pre-UT Shoop to perform. His defenses WERE fantastic. They arent at UT, yet. We better get the mystery solved. College coaching is the epitome of a "what have you done for me lately" profession.

Shoop is not worth what he is getting paid. Should have been fired after Vanderbilt last year. His scheme has yet to work.

A healthy Chubb and Michele will have a field day with us. We looked like crap in the App game too

I'm just not sure at this point if Chubb and Michel will have a field day like we witnessed last night. We were playing way off of the line last night because of the scheme we were up against. The more I think about it, it was like we were playing scared because of the chop block crap.

At some point the excuses for Shoop here have to end, right?

Shoops record speaks for itself. He's got nothing to prove to us. Look at his record prior to coming to Tennessee. he's done it with multiple schools and multiple leagues. I can't rightfully say what the issue is. But in my heart, I don't think it's the coach. Something is going on at a positional coach level.

LWS chimed in on one my threads says depth is not there due to lack of development from coaching stand point. So not rotati g kids on to keep first team fresh in my opinion gives u stay u mentioned above every time....defense gets gassed and they are not technically sound so they play more snaps then they should

Snoop has been around?? No wonder we lost Richmond for 'violating team rules'

Is his defensive scheme that freaking hard to understand??? A bunch of 4 and 5 star kids can't figure it out?

Are we talking about a scheme no-one on earth has ever seen before?

Something smells funny. Don't buy it.

Make that 4 out 5.

UK, Mizzou, Vandy, & GT.

Mizzou had over 700 yards last season.

Too early to say.

Throw out last year, that was a different team. Same DC, sure, but different lads with different issues.

And can't tell clearly what's up with Team 121 yet, because the demands and scheming for the triple-o is simply too unique. Our defense will never defend again this season the way it did last night. It will never have that 'look and feel' again.

Did we see glimmers of problems that will persist? Quite possibly. There is room for some concern. Just nothing you can hang your hat on yet.

What will we look like over the next few weeks? We don't know for sure. And may not truly know our defensive identity until the UGa game. Indiana State and U Mass are unlikely to be good litmus tests, nor Florida's offense either, unless they make huge strides from week 1 to week 3.

So for a lot of this, we're just gonna have to wait and see.

Using that logic two position coaches ....same results looks lime it players....honestly whoops defense need solid lb. Play and frankly we have not had that his entire tenure our linebackers need alot of work and we have some young talented players there they better get it fixed starting this week

If Shoop's defense gives up an enormous amount of yardage to Florida, it's fair to consider whether or not he's earning that paycheck. That Florida offense isn't gimmicky, isn't difficult to prepare for, and isn't overly talented. If we give up 600 yds to them, Shoop won't have much, if any support.

It's almost like they didn't study any film on how other ACC defenses handle this offense. Clearly those other teams don't give up so many yards. It's like UT didn't even bother looking at film. Not film of GT but film of how defenses handled GT.

Meh. Wait till after Georgia. We will know for sure where Shoop stands by then. GT is too oddball to make an accurate judgement off of. Indiana st....is....Indiana state....and I'm not convinced that Florida is capable of fielding an offense that's really worthy of getting excited over shutting down, kinda like picking on a retarded kid at this point with them. Umass lost to Hawaii...so yeah.... But Georgia looks pretty good. They seem to have gotten it together so far this season. So if our D plays good in that game, keeps a team like UGA under 350ish, maybe 400ish, I think we have something worth feeling good about.

Scheme issue...he doesn't attack at all. Yes maybe a blitz here and there, but he has these guys sitting on their heels makes no sense.

For .e our defense tackles played with no push or leverage or physicality.....they are soft. And I am questioning some of their technique.their offense line is not good and blew us all after first three offense possessions
