I would like to go to either Central America or South America later this year for a week and a half vacation. Any suggestions...

*****no Chavez or Venezuela ideas, please*****

Will also need to get advice on packages that are available and suggestions on sights to see, places for young singles (not old retirees) and other intangible stuff.

If you like scuba diving, Belize is great. Belize City is a slum, however. Think about a liveaboard or a resort in the keys.

I have several friends that have done Costa Rica over the last several years. Supposedly great deals and beautiful place. Sounds like early Cancun - not real developed but tourist focused.

I'm hoping to go to Nicaragua this year. Friend's parents have a house there. (might to talk to Ollie North for some pointers prior to going!)

Costa Rica would have been my first choice, but then I saw a few reviews where people said that you can't flush toilet paper in the toilets there, and that you needed to carry a bag with you to hold all of your old tissue. Here's the link...

Scroll down to the "Travel Tips" section and it is the 3rd comment down.

You can't flush any toilet paper in Costa Rica, and many places don't change your trash for you, or provide extra bags. Travellers should be advised to bring some plastic bags of their own just in case, because it can make for a really gross situation. Especially in the Costa Rican heat.
