I agree with HighSpeed and Marco on the recruiting strategy.

Most of our fans want top ten every year but with the pay for play situation it doesn’t make sense to go heavy high school every year.
None of us know what the 30+ elite players cost in 2026.

That said, I expect, EXPECT to be tapping the pen when the porthole gun blasts, names circled, underlined. Notes taken. WE WILL BE GANGSTER OR FARRED. ok reprimanded.

It's honestly just so different now.

Including me- I don't know how to feel about not getting this guy or the GA kid from Howard HS.

I like the kid from Haywood.
Imagine we get some All-Conference Big 10 safety in December.
Imagine we don't?

It's like we can only get excited about the team once Spring practice starts and the roster is set

Exactly. It's give and take. We've been so focused on sticking to traditional recruiting that we end up with a lot of players that don't contribute and no room. Only losing single digit potential contributors this year to graduation, so spend the money on portal. Nice change of pace. I like Heupel, but he needs to make some major adjustment in a bad way and so far this offseason he has done that in a loud fashion. Improved roster management and strategy is a significant part of that equation that he has improved in this offseason

Why do some of you expect certain things like you know what we actually need or what the coaches are thinking? What if they aren’t as active in the portal as you expect them to be? Oh that’s right it doesn’t mean a thing because nobody on this site has a real clue as to what we really need like our coaching staff does.

What Heupel has changed this offseason has been a positive yes. Vols have been noticeably lacking with certain things that they have addressed this offseason. Results need to come on the field now. Can't just be two big year spikes in with 8-4 and no ranked wins each season.

Austin Price responding to questions about Anthony Poindexter missing out on all 3 of his top safety targets (before the tide apparently turned with Marcus Jones):

AP (A Poindexter) would rather spend bigger money on retention in December or in portal in January. Big money for Kenaz if he comes available but for now the family ties to Maryland were too much.
