Same people said this in 22, 23 and before this season that WR will never be an issue. Yes we found and recruited highly rated guys out of high school in Sampson and they performed up to their level. Why not continue to recruit at that level or better? Why don't you want to be better?Do you think a 5 star would outperform Sampson or Wright the past two years? Would those rushing performances not be considered the level of a highly touted 5 star recruit?
This offense has numerous issues — running the ball has never been one.
This is a repeat of all the WR talk from the past 3+ years. Yes, average players like Bishop can look good, but wouldn't it be nice to continue to recruit the Sampson's or better going forward? Wouldn't that explosive run you mentioned be better than no explosive run? **** man, you can want to remain the same going forward but some of us would like to see the team get better. This is the one position that stars arent as important, specifically in our offense. Look at Bishop for example. Sure, if we had a 5 star we might break an explosive run here or there, but with our splits and how opponents defense lines up sets our running game up nicely
I’m not talking about WR’s. Heupel’s teams have rushed for more than 2,500 yards every season, even before UT. I mean…Sampson was a 3 star prospect. Rankings are more important for positions like WR, QB and OLThis is a repeat of all the WR talk from the past 3+ years. He was breaking records in HS out of Louisiana. If you followed his recruitment, which I know you did, then you could tell he was highly underrated even as a 4 star. He wasn't some anomaly.I mean…Sampson was a 3 star prospect. Rankings are more important for positions like WR, QB and OL
I mean cool, just pointing out that you and others are posting similar comments about our running game now that 90% of our fan base on here said in years past about our wide receiver room under Heupel. And I never said we need a 5 star player, but it would be better to have one in Hiter and not assume we will be fine because we have been fortunate in the recent past. Hiter seems like plan A at the moment.I’m not talking about WR’s. Heupel’s teams have rushed for more than 2,500 yards every season, even before UT. It’s not an issue.
Sampson was not highly rated — he was a 3 star on several sites, as was Wright.
Just because they may not land a 5 star doesn’t mean they’re not recruiting the position well. Do better.
Oh yea I absolutely want him lol, thats not the point I was getting at at all. My point was a walk on can avg 5 yards a carry with our schemeHe was breaking records in HS out of Louisiana. Regardless, the point being is that we want Hiter, no? Do we not all agree that he will murder in our offense? Rankings matter at all positions, but it doesn't take much to see he would be better than half our RB room on day 1.
Can you tell me a time during Heupel’s coaching career where he did not have a great rushing offense?I mean cool, just pointing out that you and others are posting similar comments about our running game now that 90% of our fan base on here said in years past about our wide receiver room under Heupel. Not OL. There are a number of all pro NFL linemen who were not high level recruits in the last 20 years. It’s a developmental position. Some were even recruited as tight ends, and Lane Johnson was a QB.I mean…Sampson was a 3 star prospect. Rankings are more important for positions like WR, QB and OL
We need a quality power speed typical SEC running back. Elite running backs fit any system. You don’t just settle for fits In the system exclusively. Settling for average to good backs isn’t the answer unless you want to be the Dallas Cowboys who believe any running back will do. Tennessee used to dish out strong tough fast backs that could hit the hole. To heck with settling for decent fits the system backs. We need dudes in the backfield. Johnny Jones,Reggie Cobb,Chuck Webb,Jamal Lewis, Travis Henry all bad dudes in the back field. Scat backs are a dime a dozen but you can find the strong and special like Alvin Kamara,Travis Stephens, Charlie Garner and Dylan Sampson. We need to recruit elite backs more, no settling. I would love to get Savion! GBOI mean…Sampson was a 3 star prospect. Rankings are more important for positions like WR, QB and OL
And that's a great thing about our offense and I believe you just said that he lacks explosiveness which could break games wide open. So we need to do better than Bishop as much as I like him and we need to do it with depth.Oh yea I absolutely want him lol, thats not the point I was getting at at all. I agree on Lewis, why not get another one in this class like Savion. I love Lewis potential, he is big and fast and showed some flashes of what he could become. If we can land Savion I will feel as good about the RB position as I have in a while. I think Heupel and staff have upped their desire to get a more physical blend of power, speed and vision. It’s good to have different types but it’s hard to beat big strong and fast with vision. They are out there and we have to battle for them. Tough for scat backs to get the tough yards in the sec. We got to be meaner and tougher at the LOS and the running game.GBOThat is literally what Peyton Lewis is
He was a true freshman. Jaylen Wright “lacked vision” as a true freshman, but learned it.I like Lewis but he doesn’t have the vision that some RBs have naturally.
