Uts student section?

This past year (08-09) we lost to Memphis, Gonzaga, and got embarrassed by Jodie Meeks at home. These were the games that students got excited about, but we blew them. We even lost to Alabama... and you can't tell me at least the Rowdies aren't rowdy during these big games. As for the entire student section... thats a different story.

The student section has been embarrassingly sparse several times last year, too. "Extremely active" would not characterize the student section when it was even full, and I was sitting in it.

Also, you aren't going to make much of a case to older UT fans saying that there isn't enough success to keep fans interested. Two years ago was about as good as it has been in decades. I doubt Tennessee will be ranked #1 again for a long while.

Guess what, that was two years ago, obviously our success has dropped off... and you can't say that was as good as it gets, we choke in the NCAA tournament and can't make it to where we should be. Sweet 16 is great, but if we want to get a student section that rivals Duke, UNC and other top schools we need to mirror their success and that can't be built over three successful years.

...maybe its because UT sticks their student section in one TINY corner and the overflow in the upper deck! If we had prime seating like the Dukies, maybe our in-game intensity would be better! UT would never give up these seats because of the loss of revenue... I guess it is a business but it certainly takes away from the atmosphere!

Its not exactly making a strong case for the university to strip the people who are long time season ticket holders and donors of their seats when don't even come to the games and its free.

Students definitely come!!! when have you seen students not coming?!? When has the student section been empty?! I'm a recent grad and trust me, if you didn't go early even for a scrub game you were looking at upper-deck seats!

I'm really starting to question the validity of your posts.
I went to numerous non-conference games last year, and for the most part, the student section was an embarassment. Not even remotely close to capacity.

I have somewhat of a unique perspective since I started at UT in '02 at the end of the Buzz ball. We were lucky to get 100 students to show up for games other than UK. I've gotten to witness what Bruce Pearl basketball has done for the university and basketball program and compared to the old days, the student interest is 200% improved. I think UT students got too much success too soon and now they're spoiled. They expect 30 wins every year. Guess what? It ain't happening. The fact that UT can compete with the Gonzaga's and Kansas' of the nation now should be an encouraging thought to UT students, but you aren't going to dominate everyone every year. Over the last couple of seasons, I've witnessed a growing impatience with our student section at basketball games which really bothers me. We are a new kid on the block of big time basketball and we have to take our licks before we can even be mentioned in the same breath as North Carolina or Duke. We are light years away from that. Sure we lose a few games that we should win, every program does. Students just need to support our team, win or lose and show up the next game as excited as the last and be very very grateful that we aren't the doormat of the SEC anymore.
