Davis was a four-year starter at defensive back at the University of Tennessee. In addition, he was voted to the Academic All-SEC team in 1986.
Actually did better than his broadcast partner.

Davis does a good job. I'd like to see him not having to deal with Fox's 2nd rate coverage.

Yes he's informal. But this was some of the most boring commentary I've witnessed. The National Championship Game deserves top shelf announcers.

Fox really did do a terrible job. The commentators did not know what they were talking about half the time, and one of them seemed like he would take a bullet for Tim Tebow.

Gary Danielson is the best commentator along with Herbstreit imo

If your going to slam someone for praising Tebow its probably best to not then mention that Danielson is the best. He has a man-crush on Tebow.

I like davis as a commentator, but he is the only thing I liked about fox's presentation. I have'nt enjoyed any of their broadcasts through any of the bcs games. Maybe it's their lack of being around the college football nation through the season, then broadcasting the biggest games of the year. Like I said, can't put my finger on it.

Doesn't ESPN start a contract with the BCS bowls next year? Or is that further down the road? I hope it's next year.

I think the job Charles did tonight will make him rise on the radar of bigger and better networks.

Yeah, because big networks love a guy who doesn't correct the play by play guy when he's got the down wrong and spends most of the game speaking in pure platitudes. The next insightful comment Davis makes on television will be his first.

I was thinking the same thing about Davis but I was just confused trying to figure out who these "bigger" networks were. Better? Sure, that can be argued. But bigger? I was under the impression FOX was pretty high up that list.

At least he was introduced as a Tennessee Volunteer at the start of the broadcast. That is as close as we got to the NC this year folks!

I personally thought the announcers were repetitious and boring. I zoned them out after half time and fell asleep in the 4th quarter.

The coverage last night was very informative, I had no idea that Tebow has traveled the world on missionary trips!!

He seems like one of those announcers who thinks he needs to dumb things down for the average fan, I hate that.
