I've had way too much time on my hands today, and got caught up in research. So I'd like to share some things I personally find interesting, and of general importance.
Over the past 2 decades, dating back to 1998, 21 seasons have came and gone counting this 17-18 calendar bball year. In that time span UT has gone 12-29 vs. UK, & 2-17 when playing at Rupp.
Counting tomorrows game, since '98, only 8 times have the two teams faced off in games played while both were ranked. Twice in '00, once in '01, 3 times in '10, and twice in 2018. UT is 3-4 in those particular matches (hopefully 4-4 after tomorrow night).
Over the past 20 years, TN has only faced UK as the higher ranked team 9 times come tomorrow.
YEAR Rankings: UT/UK
2000: UT Win: #7/#18, UT Loss: #6/#14
2001: 2 TN losses: #4/UR & #15/#22
2006: UT W @Rupp: #11/UR, UT home L: #11/UR
2008: UT W: #1(heck yea)/UR, UT L smh: #3/UR
2018: Beat #17 UK while ranked #23 in our 1st
game. Tomorrow we will enter Rupp Arena
ranked 15th, & leave victorious over the
24th ranked KY Wildcats, thus knocking
them out of the next updated Top 25 Poll.
History highly suggests we're more than likely to drop tomorrows game. When we go to Rupp, it often seemingly doesn't matter if we enter the game ranked higher, and with the better team/record. 2 wins at Rupp in 20 years speaks for itself. But with that said, we're gonna whoop some butt I do believe. I haven't been this confident heading to Rupp since 2008 even tho while ranked 3rd, we managed losing to an extremely average unranked UK team on that cold winter night.
IMO were clicking on all cylinders currently. We are one of the hottest, most dangerous teams in the nation. Nobody will want to play us in the NCAAT. KY this year is just 'off'. Something is missing there. They've got a ton of talent don't get me wrong, but it's not all coming together like in years past. They played a weak non-conf schedule. They had failed to beat a ranked team until they faced WV Jan. 27th. They haven't proved much of anything other than their season being a head scratcher. Don't be mislead by their overall record. They racked up the great majority of their W's against inferior, low-quality competition. I believe them to be overrated myself.
It's clear to me they can easily be beaten at Rupp this year. Within SEC play, they only have 1 home loss to a barely afloat UF team. Outside of a 13 point home win vs. Miss State, all other conference teams have gone into Rupp and kept it within 5, 1, & 2 points respectively. They have 2 'questionable' road losses @ SC & Mizzou, along with some home & road wins that was closer than it ever should've been. Quality teams don't make all of that a pattern. The only road loss they have that won't hurt them come seeding time is their L to us. IDK, something just isn't right in Lexington this year. I like our chances leaving with a W.
WHAT SAY YOU, VOL NATION?
I apologize for this post being rather lengthy, and for any rambling done on my part within it. I just gotta lil carried away. Im excited! GO VOLS!!!!:rock::rock:
