I didn't like the concept of focusing on singling out players as cancers headed for transfer, but with early signing period approaching and a need to make room for 25+ there is a lot of bodies to displace. I thought a thread on our roster might provide a platform for a more strategic discussion, and be insightful. My goal was to provide an overview of our counts and needs by position, and provide healthy debates about performance and areas of need.

With out further ado.

All of the roster data I have organized comes from here: Tennessee 2018 Football ScholarshipDistribution

I have organized this by Offense, Defense, and ST/ATL to make it more digestible in the attachment. My plans are to try and break out some overviews as we progress towards signing day and post player minutes and stats to help bypass cancer discussion and focus on production.

I did realize this data is not comprehensive as I did not see Paul Bain. If anyone sees other players that need to be accounted for let me know.

Just using the raw data we have
9 Seniors
24 Juniors (area I think will be targeted for transfer heaviest)
27 Sophmores
27 Freshman

78 guys on scholarship not counting seniors if any of this is accurate. That leaves 18 spots to vacate assuming none go for the draft early...wow

I presume some counts have to be off but either way we have to lose most of a full class to make room for this one.

I don't think Gaddy is a scholarship player unless something has changed in the past couple of days.

Just realized I was too deep in data mode and their 2018 data was technically close of last year. Need to grab 2019 and update. No good deed goes unpunished.

I think it's pretty easy to find 8-10 names on there that we'll lose to attrition. We can't afford for any Jrs to declare for the draft but we'll likely have at least 1.

We actually had 13 seniors or redshirt seniors. We have players on the roster that are not on scholarship. The NCAA allows 85 scholarship players.

Tennessee Team Scholarship Numbers (80)
*Current (does not include Jennings or two blue shirts)
QBs = 3
RBs = 5
WRs = 11
TEs = 6
OLs = 13
DLs = 18
LBs = 10
DBs = 11
Spec = 3

Tennessee Team Scholarship Players By Class (80)
RS Sr – 5
Sr – 4
RS Jr – 7
Jr – 9
RS So – 8
So – 19
RS Fr – 8
Fr – 20

We gain 9 scholarships from seniors and redshirt seniors leaving which would put us at 71 if we include JJ and the 2 blueshirts we are at 73. We will most likely lose 10 or more due to transfer and those declaring early for the draft which could be 3-4 players..

Pruitt will sign 25 at least and some will most likely blueshirt.

Does a player get a grade for football? (That might make it easier to determine who to cut. Blue Font)

31 OL and DL and another 9 coming in and we can't come up with a competent DL and OL next season something will be terribly wrong. That is 40 people half your scholarship allotment guess some want be here don't know how we go into a season with 40 at those two positions.

I'm really praying that Pruitt can make some serious miracles happen fast for both our O and D line.

We're simply not going to become a Team going for any type of Championships until our big guys on the LOS can push around the linemen from the other big schools.

We need big, fast, strong guys that are smart and can learn our schemes fast and take a mean streak onto the field with them to Dominate the LOS on both sides of the ball.

Get it done Pruitt!!!

VFL...GBO!!!

I still say forget the numbers on paper.... We know what seniors are going... Transfers???, We know we can recruit whatever number (25?) Send that number of worst non performers (for what ever reason, not able or attitude) out the door. This leaves you "short" transfers and seniors. Just go with the lessor number.....

I was told the day of the Missouri game that Calloway had posted on his IG that it was his last ride or something along those lines meaning it was his last game in Neyland. There is noway Jennings has enough game film this year to go because we never threw the ball to him. I don’t have stats in front of me but I’m willing to bet that there were games that he didn’t get one single target.

Maybe if we could play 10 OL & DL at a time, we would be better in the trenches.

Now that the conference has lifted restrictions on grad transfers, you have to consider which rising seniors are graduating early and are candidates to transfer out on their own.

Per Pruitt Jennings was hurt all year and played hurt against Vanderbilt why he wasn't targeted a lot.

M. Gray is one I would look at. Same class as Palmer only 2 games played. Recruited for S and switched to receiver despite need at CB.
