UT, Penn State, South Carolina players detail Fitzgerald’s strength program results | Vols Wire

“Our whole weight room staff is unbelievable. Coach Fitzgerald is a high intensity guy. Every single morning he is always there. Even if you come in and kind of tired, within 15 minutes you are just jacked up and ready to lift. He knows exactly what he is talking about, everybody’s numbers have been going up.”

“Coach Fitz’s strength and conditioning program is designed to target all aspects of the game of football, more importantly the SEC,” Bowens said in Fulmer Hires Pruitt. “Coach Fitz designed his program to challenge you mentally and physically all in a competitive nature. His program pushes your mental and physical toughness needed to survive in the SEC.

Hopefully the new strength and conditioning coach will do a good job with the Vols and help fix this injury plague that Tennessee has had the past two seasons. I've never seen a string of injuries like Tennessee has had the last few seasons before. Was it lack of conditioning that brought on all these injuries?

While injures are a part of the game and every team experiences them it is clear that Butch’s approach and culture was resulting in soft players that weren’t ready for the war of attrition that is SEC football. I think Butch had a few fluke injuries and some that were due to missing some basic things early on and overreacted by over analyzing and being overly cautious in practices and games.

Helton better develop a q.b. real quickly to get the ball down field. We have many targets but need the O.L. to give the q.b. time and a q.b. that can throw the ball.

Jennings, Calloway, Palmer, Johnson, Wood-Anderson, Chandler etc.etc.
I see each one of them on an NFL team in the future.
If we can't get 300 yards passing each game and 150 yards rushing each game EXCEPT maybe against O'BAMA Crimson Tide, then something is seriously wrong

This all day everyday and twice on Sunday. My thoughts exactly.

I'm going 275 passing and 200 on the ground but anything close to this and winning the turn over battle along with kickass defense are the keys to getting 9 wins this yr!

Hopefully when the players take the field against WV, they will say: "Those guys aren't nearly as tough as Coach Fitz is on us in the weight room!" "Get up!, I want to block you again!"

Agreed, but did anyone see that Wood-Anderson is 260 and giving defenders trouble in the passing game in 7 v 7..... That's nuts. He moves like a wide receiver at that size.... He is going to destroy some people.

Dude is a large, athletic TE. Hopefully, we will throw the ball his way and not just utilize him as a blocker, although some of our linemen might need “help”.

Fitz is the single most important hire Pruitt has made. Glad to hear things are pointing in the right direction. Hopefully we will get the "big" back into the Big Orange.

So as far as insiders go that often visit on here, who has connections and visits the practices? That’s who I’m going to trust

What I want to happen is when WV walks out on the field and lines up in front of both our O and D Line, that they think to themselves.... These guys are yuuuuggeeeee....

That would make me happy. Also, I hope we see the D Line push WVs O line all over the place....

It'll be good.

I'll have more input on the strength training program, the coaches, and Pruitt after we beat the crap out of W. Va. Until that happens everything is lovely reading.

I go back and forth on which coach is the most important hire. Helton the OC and QB Coach or Fitz. Either way they are both important to Pruitt's success at UT.

I agree. We simply won't know until we see them play. And I can honestly say that I won't be surprised if we lose. It may take a few games to get the kinks ironed out.

Like Derek Barnett and Trey Smith?

There are certain players that would excel under Barney Fife. They just have that about them. Are you saying that we weren't soft under CBJ? I'd say we had the softest teams I can remember under his watch. And most others said the same thing. So if you want to pick out the exception to the rule fine. I'll agree to those individuals, but on the whole, we were soft.
