UT mentioned in SEC pre-game and a question.

I know what he said, and it's a historical fact. That slaveowners had absolutely no knowledge of advanced genetics or dominant and recessive genes doesn't mean that selective breeding wasn't commonplace.

Selective breeding had been taking place since the beginning of recorded history with herds and flocks, and it was common in slaveholding societies to use the same methodology. Slaveholders may not have understood how or why it happened that two big slaves would have a larger or stronger child or two smart ones would have a smarter child, but they knew it happened.

Now if you want to get into the whole "He shouldn't have said it", that's another issue entirely.
Interesting..I had a History professor single me out one day in class..He told me to stand before the class. Then he informed the class he deemed me of above average intelligience and noted my size (6ft7) 290lbs. At this point I was puzzled but he eluded to me being a by product of selective breeding...Nevertheless we minced words after class..That may have been protocol during slavery but it has no place now..not even to be mentioned..The good professor and I are great friends till this day, so Jimmy the Greek and his divise ideologies can RIP.

Personally, I could not care less about the skin color of the head football coach at UT.

I just want a winner.

But I am beyond tired of listening to the "experts" at ESPN talk about the percentage of black head coaches, at any level of college or pro football.

Hire the most qualified candidate, who fits the mold for your program. Black, white, whatever. Simple as that.

Good grief.....

Go Vols.

Until someone can list every candidate we talked to and why, then these ANALysts are just talking out of their stupid asses.

If this comment came from a credible source then I might take a longer look. Who the hexx is Charles Tillman and what has he done?..duhhhhhhhhhh.....NOTHING IN MY BOOK!

Why doesn't Tillman and the other ESPN clowns tackle the problem of not enough white RB's in the SEC? This is a travesty...I think we white men should at least have a shot at playing running back while being recruited....

When are they gonna tackle that problem? Weak minded men with nothing else to say play the race card. Its getting old. Plus Tillman, nor any other analysts knows who all was interviewed. But the coming out of nowhere is the most asinine comment of the year. Kiff was in the mainstream national media on a daily basis 2 months ago...come off of it.

Someone brings the race issue up about almost every school when they are looking for a new coach. Not just Tennessee, it was just our turn to hear it. Hopefully we will not hear it for another 17 years because Kiffin works out.

If the best coach available would have been Lovie Smith then we might be considered racist, but since he turned us down, I don't see Charlie Strong as being as good as Lane Kiffin. Spencer Tillman has always been an idiot and he hates the big orange.

Great point, and further proof that Spencer Tillman is a total toolbag!

The man didn't even do his research.

Oh well. We'll dredge this up when he starts riding CLK's jock.

To look at one person and deduce that they're a product of specialized breeding is absolutely absurd. My younger brother is 7" taller and about 100 pounds heavier than I am; based on your history prof, he would be the result of specialized breeding and I would not be (even though we have the same parents, same grandparents, etc).

As for whether the practice of specialized breeding should never be mentioned, I don't see why not. It is, after all, a historical fact. And since we live in a country that's roughly 15% black (of African descent) and yet professional sports are largely dominated by people of African descent, it would also go a long way toward coming toward a reasonable explanation.

Race may be a touchy issue, but I refuse to believe that there is no way to have an intelligent discussion about race and sports.

This is probably the worst forum to accurately and intelligently discuss race.
I'm not going to comment on UT being racist, but America still has a lot of racism today, which is terrible and not to be trivialized.

Of course it's not to be trivialized.

I figure if anyone makes any clearly racist comments, it's a great way to break in my "ignore" function.

I'm certain that just about any topic can sometimes be discussed somewhat intelligently somewhere within this forum.:)

It comes with the territory of our Head Coach's job being considered a premier position. I'm confident that Mike gave due consideration to all qualified candidates. I feel it was just our turn in the spotlight... look for Auburn to hear it next if they do not hire an African-American coach.

I am so sick of seeing these threads where all of you homers claim ESPN hates us, or CBS does or Spencer Tillman hates us...etc......It is all BS. None of the networks go out of their way to disparage us in any way. In fact, I would say we get favorable coverage for the most part. Quite frankly, there havent
s been many positive things to report about Tennessee football for the past seven or eight years.

C'mon guys, get the f'ing chips off of your shoulders. No network hates us and honestly, it makes us look like a bunch of immature and uninformed crybabies to be claiming such things.

Grow up, please

Who cares what any of them think. They are all trying to be the "Man!" who thinks he's always right.

They sit there and 2nd guess everybody, and armchair quarterback every move anybody, coach or player makes.

Hell i could do that.... wait ............i do do that, but not on national TV :eek:lol:

Obviously you work for ESPN; and you hate the Vols.

There is only one real "minority canidate" that is close to CLK, that was interested in UT, that was Turner Gill. No one else is even close. I would have been very happy to get Gill (posted in many other threads).

this discussion is not worth having. UT was going to hire the right person, no matter who he was. We will see what Gill does (I think he is coming to Auburn).
