Looks like UT license plates in Alabama could soon become a reality. One of the major hurdles in Alabama has been that the state has not allowed out of state colleges and universities to apply for a specialty license plate. That law just changed last week.

I spoke with state rep Paul DeMarco who sponsored Alabama HB 215 to allow for out of state college plates in Alabama. The bill passed the house and senate and was signed by Governor Bentley on Thursday, May 23.

Bill Text: AL HB215 | 2013 | Regular Session | Enrolled | LegiScan

I'm not sure how long it will take to implement, but soon as it does, I'll get in line for the plate. I believe that someone has to design the plate and that it will take 250 paid applications to make it happen.

Problem is that if you have a UT tag in Alabama you can't park in the handicapped spaces like you can with a regular Alabama tag.:wink:

Great news! Is BuckFama spoken for??

Speaking of "Ala O'bama" I absolutely loved watching the softball game on Saturday.

Alabama really thought that they would beat us and return to the college world series. We may not beat them in football very often, but I love it when we beat them in baseball, softball, mens basketball or womens basketball.

I think the look on their faces when we beat them is absolutely priceless!!!!!

I was there & it was great!!! Their players were crying BOO HOO... ( there's no crying in softball!) our fans were classy to them, a far cry from the way we would have been treated by them. It was so nice to see their fans slink out of the stadium in their red garb, especially that ole red neck toothless girl in the overalls & Mexican hat! She was real mouthy starting Friday, but by Sat evening, she didn't have too much to say. TYPICAL!

PS: I hope all u Vol fans who are sentenced to live in that hole of a state get to have UT orange license plates...like was said earlier, if we have to look at their nasty red, they should look at our beautiful orange!

OK, got an update on the process for this. It's unclear whether the Revenue Department will accept applications as of yet, because it is so new.

So, it's still a work in progress, but here is the info from the Revenue Department...
There are 2 classes of applicants:
Class 1 - 250 commitments ($50 each) - can have a plate with the university logo on the plate
Class 2 - 1,000 commitments ($50 each) - can design an entire plate

Here is the process:
1. Organization fills out an application
2. Organization works w/ Revenue Dept to design plate
3. Legislative committee must approve design & application
4. Begin selling (currently, that must be done by individuals paying in their local probate office, but by January 1, 2014 will be available online)

So, it looks like a process, but at least it is a possibility. Props to the Ole Miss and Miss State alumni groups for working with state reps to get this done.

Since you're a bama fan who spends all his time in front of his laptop I'm sure you're an expert on beat downs.

You're probably right. Surely Alabama will always be better than Tennessee forever and forever.
