Did anyone around here see or hear anything at all about this?

UT claims they are USC east - TideFans.com

I live in Knoxville and I just finished watching a local weekly TV show on UT sports. They briefly talked about how UT football coaches are telling recruits that Tennessee will be "USC east". My wife is a huge UT fan, but we both couldnt help but laugh at the audacity of this. I cant help but wonder how they could possibly think that is a good recruiting technique. For one thing, how many recruits over here really LIKE USC? And considering this staff hasnt coached a practice, much less a game, can you say "blowing smoke??"

I think the point they are trying to make is that they are going to try and turn UT back into a title contender like mighty USC...Not a bad school to be compared to really...That certainly makes Gator fans and everybody else hate us that much more lol

That was prolly a fat a$$ bama fan sitting on his toilet staring at his picture of Saban he has plastered up on the wall thinking of something to make up to get the people on Tidefans to think hes cool.

Well, I would imagine they are referring to Kiff's statements about how USC was lower than crocodile piss when Carroll came on board with Kiff and Coach O (I think 5-7 the year before, but I may be off a bit). He's been drawing comparisons to the fact that USC sucked and turned it around, Tennessee can to. I think that is a fair, and not particularly earth-shattering statement.

Basically just a "been there, done that."

In a couple of years, with top recruiting classes, Lane K will have UT at USC's level. They will be two of the top teams in the country every year---mark it down.

The fact that Bama feels the need to right and poke fun at these statements make me smile. We're not USC but the building blocks are in route.

Bammers are obsessed with Kiffin & UT right now for a reason....they are worried.

They may try and deny this, but they had basically stopped talking about UT for the last couple years, so what does that tell you?

I'm fine with him using this now. But, in a couple of years he better be referring to USC as "UT West".

There are 2 top5 classes in Knoxville right now that Kiffin can work with. I'm interested to see what he does with the existing players in the spring. Remember, the Vols defense was rated 4th in the nation last year, and that was being on the field way longer than any other top ranked defense. Most of the players on offense were the same ones playing in the SEC Championship Game 2 seasons ago. I'll give Kiffin some slack, but I am still expecting results immediately. We may not win them all, but we sure won't lay down like we have done a few times the past few seasons.

1.) Bama talks about UT a lot right now because they are afraid we will start dominating them again. They are afraid we will dominate them WITH Saban, but I think they are more worried that Saban could be gone in a year or two, and then where will the be?

2.) UF always likes to talk a lot of crap to us. Yet they are worried just like Bama is worried. Worried we will beat them with Meyer, and worried what will happen if Meyer leaves and goes to ND.

Well, I'd be interested in seeing how much attention you pay to teams that are more than just a "zit on Bama's arse," because if you've signed up here just to share this with us, you're obviously lying.

In the past 16 years, UT leads the rivalry 11-5. Seems to me, maybe Bama fans shouldn't start spouting off about being elite until you even that up a bit. Because your last 2 years might have just been a little blip on the radar. I think you all know that could be true, because why else would you all start caring so much about UT football if we're "just a zit on Bama's ass?"

Too early to call us USC east, but if you hit up any Bama forum every other thread is about UT and Kiffin. They say it's because they're "laughing" at us. Sounds more like being afraid, we don't make 100 threads about something that's funny, we'll just make 1.

There is a lot more talent on Tennessee than they showed last year. Hopefully these new coaches can get the most out of them. I'm still waiting for the emergence of Ben Martin and Chris Donald.
