UT gets ripped...

Missouri State couldn't carry Cincinnati's bags. Missouri State is an example of why someone should pour motor oil in the computers used to calculate the RPI.
They would have finished 12th in the Big East.
Actually, motor oil can be an excellent cooling solution for a computer. It is non-conductive, so while it would be a pain to deal with if you have to change any components, it would leave the computer itself unharmed, and like I said, if immersed, cooler than a fan could EVER keep it. :biggrin2:

People can cry all they want but we will still be a 2 seed....
Funny, I dont recall anyone from the Vols staff on the selection committee. These blow hards crack me up. It's our fault the committee gave us a 2 seed.

You could say the same about UT playing some of the mid majors we have scheduled.

My point is that they rewarded alot of teams with high RPI's, but snubbed others.
UT also had at Texas, at Oklahoma State, and at Memphis. I missed the part where Missouri State played those type of teams. Arkansas was the only really good nonconference team they played.

Isn't that what this is all about though...awarding the schools whose athletic departments work closest with their math departments?

It will work itself out though, Cincy will win the NIT and all the MVC schools will be out after the first weekend.
Given the amount of disappointment they're feeling, coupled with their lack of depth, I can't see UC winning the NIT. This is the best field they've had in years. CM Newton and company did a great job of putting together a real tournament, as opposed to the dog and pony, pro wrestling style set up the NIT had deteriorated into in the last few years. They actually focus on putting together good games instead of trying to rig the process to get the four best draws to the Garden.

I was just talking about the RPI ranking. Obviously, other factors come in at some point, too.
I know. I'm venting. I've finally beheaded my Craig Littlepage voodoo doll. I need another outlet.

Reminds me of when I was in college, I had a date with a drop-dead gorgeous blond. She later went on to have a role in the soap "General Hospital".

What's her name? I know a blond from Tennessee that used to be on General Hospital.

You should get a Verne Lundquist voodoo doll. Or maybe Billy Packer. Seems that might be the only way to get those boobs off the air now.

I can't be too angry with Packer now. He went after Littlepage Sunday. I thought it was silly on his part to admit he hadn't seen any of the MVC teams play, but otherwise I was in his corner on this one.

Only one of the six experts on SI.com expects UT to survive the weekend.

Interestingly none of them picked us to lose in the FIRST round... It's as if they are saying "ok, TN is good enough to get past the first round... but not a CHANCE they win a second game!" Damn I want to get some wins!

Well, if they knew what was going to happen, they'd be working the sports books not putting their brackets online.

IMO, there's a better chance of UT losing in the first round than the second, considering the competition.

Just IMO.

we'll be in the sweet 16, but nc will be a tough matchup just like they were a few years back. then again i have syracuse in the final four so how much credibility do i have?

They don't even expect us to beat Winthrop.....Scott Reiss(not sure on the name but that looks right) said we weren't going to get past the first round because of us being burnt out, I think us losing early in the SEC tourney boads well for us and that would give us some time to rest and get ready to hit it hard come Thursday

Heard an interesting Florida stat.

Florida now holds the record for most consecutive losses to an higher seeded opponent (5 years).

Thats not good. Is that streak going to end this year?

I think you mean AS the higher seed?

And no, it isn't good. Florida has had a habit in the last five years of running out of steam at the end of the year. I can't tell if its physical fatigue or mental breakdowns. Probably both.

This year's team seems to me to be very physically fit and conditioned. The bench is good enough to take over for 5 minute stretches here and there and keep it even and that's a very important part of the game at this level.

But I do worry that this team in particular is just too youthful to keep its focus. I figure that if they make it past Round Two, their eyes will be big as saucers and if they get beat its simply going to be because the team they play is better than them, as opposed to them laying an egg. If they lose in the Second Round to Oklahoma, well, that's not good but 3-6 is hardly a huge upset.

Florida has no excuse but to get to the Sweet 16. Round Two will be a tough game, but if the Gators are good they ought to advance.

Yes. Florida as the higher seed has lost to a lower seed for a record 5 years straight. I'm sure they would like to end that streak this year.

Myself, being a Jim Varney lookalike and being pretty much penniless, I didn't deserve the break but I took it anyway and eventually convinced myself that I did deserve it. Had a great time BTW.

Rockydoc,

They funny thing is that the drop-dead gorgeous blond that you're referring to is a close friend of mine. I used to always stay at her house when I went out to Southern California to watch the Vols play against UCLA.

 You are a fortunate person. She was as nice as she was attractive.
