I'm planning on attending the Southern Miss game (wife is USM grad) and would like some information. It's been 12 years or so since I have attended a football game in Knoxville was wondering what's the best way to get to/from the game?

I worked at Sam & Andy's while at UT so didn't go to a lot of games, but do remember the terrible traffic/parking situation. Vol Navy or RV tailgating are not options unfortunately. I'm out of state, but have made no hotel reservations yet, so I'm not area limited ATM. I vaguely remember shuttle buses...

I'm not sure if this is the correct forum, so please move if needed.

there are still shuttles that run from some of the hotels out west...i know i've taken shuttles from the hampton inn off Cedar bluff, and another place off Lovell road......

as for parking, i usually park up by St. Mary's hospital just north of the strip, lots of parking lots up there or sometimes if get there early enough, in the 1st TN bank parking lot on the strip.

either way, there's not a whole lot of difference in the walk to and fro the stadium.

and you can't really get there too early...don't know what time that game will be, but if it's a noon kick off, go EARLY. 3 pm or later, i'd be on the way to the strip by 8 or 8.30 for a about 9 a.m. arrival to the scene.

lot has changed on the strip...but still can get lunch and drinks at a number of places up and down cumberland. still also have plenty of ut gear shops as well.

have fun.

I always suggest to people to stay at or around the Merchants road area. It is right off of I-75 and about a 5 min. drive to campus. If you get to campus early enough, you can usually find a parking spot on the street. If not, I always park about a block off of the end of the strip, behind Mellow Mushroom, it is in a parking garage next to a Children's Hospital doctor's office. It only cost $10 and is about a 3-5 min. drive from the interstate. It is a little bit of a walk, but not to bad.

the drunk walk to the stadium from the strip before the game is just as much tradition for us as running through the T is for the football team.

me and my family hardly ever drive to the game as the parking is terrible. we usually get there by shuttle if the hotel we are staying at supports it. if you don't want to do that though try staying at the Holiday End World's Fair or Days Inn on Campus. Both are close enough that you can walk to the stadium.

The Holiday Inn will run you about 200 a night with at least a 2 night minimum. That is the going rate for any of our downtown hotels on gameday weekends. Turkey creek has some nice Hotels but it is about a 20-30 min drive to the game. I think earlier he said he parks at St. Mary's Hospital, that is way north (for walking) on broadway. I think he meant to say Fort Sanders Regional. Anyway, shuttles are good routes and there are some park and rides close to campus if your hotel does not offer a shuttle. There is one on the west side of campus and one at the civic auditorium. They run about 5-10 bucks for parking and riding. I will warn you of this. There is a ton of downtown construction on the interstate so check with TDOT before you decide a route. At some point (I believe 2008 season) they are shutting down I-40 from 640 on the east side to Alcoa highway on the west. Parking in the Fort is always fun and close so if you can get there about 6 hour prior to game time or around 8 for nooners you can usually find a spot. Good luck and have a great time.

For those wanting to avoid traffic, I suggest you park at the Disc Exchange and walk across Henley to Neyland. Easy in, easy out. You can take Old Knoxville Hwy to Blount County or drive across Henley and get on I-40.
