Along with preparing for Georgia Tech's flexbone offense, Tennessee's defense sounds like it's cramming for an anatomy exam. The head, the hands, the eyes, the knees — all of these body parts have been part of Tennessee's preparation for the Yellow Jackets' dangerous, ball-control attack. They were ninth nationally in yards rushing per game last season (258.1) and averaged 28.2 points.

Senior defensive tackle Kendal Vickers said UT's preparation began early and might last until game time. "It's probably the most film I've watched on a team since I've been here," Vickers said. Vickers' viewing has focused, in part, on Tech's use of cut blocks, a strategy that attempts to cut down a defender by blocking at his knees. "Some teams did a great job defending those cut blocks," Vickers said, "Some teams didn't do such a good job. We've been trying different things and different techniques to defend the cut blocks."

Defensive end Jonathan Kongbo favors a hands-on approach to fending off such blocks. "Hand violence," he said. "I feel like if you hit a guy hard enough, he's going to think twice about whatever he does. So I would just say be violent. Match violence with violence."

No Kongbo, this is one game you have to keep your head and not get violent and out of control. This week it is assignment football. You have to be in control to push off those diving at your knees. Be violent with FL and GA.

He wasn't talking literally. He's talking about physical play that's legal.

All this talk of hand violence and slobber knockin' makes me wonder if I'm still on a football forum...

GBO! Hope Kongbo has a field day to set the tone for the rest of the season.

If Kongbo can use his "hand violence" with a two-handed jam to the OLineman's shoulder pads before he can finish his dive, and stop the fellow in his tracks, I'm all for it.

I don't think Kongbo was talking about slapping the guy in the head. :)

I'm excited to see Kongbo unleashed off the end this year.

Football is a game played with arms, legs and shoulders but mostly from the neck up.
So lets play smart and disciplined and do our damn jobs and the score will take care of its self...GBO:clapping:

The closer we get, the more I worry about chop blocks. There coach said he would support outlawing the move if there was any data supporting the fact that it caused more injuries than standard blocking. I can't believe there havent been any studies on it. Seems like a no brained. Anyone seen any studies?

I've seen articles on the topic (many, when I googled it a month or two ago), but didn't find a single comprehensive, statistical or scientific study. Was surprised by that.

Would love to see one as well.
