UT Football History: CPF's Countdown to Legendary Status

Good post. It made me stop and think.

What's implied by kpt's post, of course, is that all my remaining posts are quite reasonable, or, not ridiculous in any way. Now recognizing this reality, I appreciate kpt's support and apologize for not noticing the striking concurrence between our views.

Others here are capable of similar learning outcomes. The brainwashing you have endured can be reversed. It's not too late!

It was a pleasure to mentor kpt and I expect his devotion to CPF to flourish in the years ahead. At any moment, I anticipate his friendship invitation.

When you talk out of your ass in every single post, it makes this kind of post much less effective.

Given his renewed popularity, renewed sense of winning, and the sensational football team and staff he's assembled, it's time to start counting down the number of wins our revered Coach Fulmer needs to become the Winningest Coach in UT Football History.

He needs 26 more to tie General Neyland!

That's well within the norms for three CPF seasons, so predicting that would be too easy. Instead, I say the Vols bring home 26 wins in the next two seasons.

So, when will it happen? It will occur before our sophomore class graduates. Plan on it. The Vols will tie the record when they win the 2009 SEC Championship Game. They'll break it in the Granddaddy of them all-- The Rose Bowl!

The date: January 7th, 2010.

That is the site for the National Championship Game.

For the record, use this thread to record whether you think this timing is too optimistic, too pessimistic, or to note that I count on seeing you in Pasadena.

It will be Fulmer's last game as Head Coach! After that happens, what else is left for CPF to accomplish?

Go Fulmer! Go Vols!

Complete and total garbage.

This scenario is now mathematically impossible. Looks like you were pretty close, though.

Thanks for bumping this thread, KPT. I had forgotten just how much fun I had yanking your chain in this thread.

In times like these, it's great to remember the fun times of the past.

You're still a little slow in that regard, but there is hope for you yet.

Yeah, because you've always been so quick to realize the way things really are. Exhibit A: Every post made prior to the UCLA game.

If you want evidence of who is capable of catching on, see my first post in this thread.

Good attempt at a recovery but it still fails.

Hey, utmba93......

Were you able to get a job with that degree? I hope you do better at your real job than you did with the original post in August.

Great point... thinking the Vols could win all those games was not so out of line, but that thought about KPT's potential... that distorted reality beyond reason.

Reality is something you will never understand.

Neyland will never go away in UT's history--and no one would want it any other way. But if Phil wins as I have suggested, neither will he.

The Vols do have the players and the staff to do it.

As it stands, Phil will never go away in the minds of Tennessee fans. It's just how he will be remembered that is at stake.

FWIW, Mike Price will forever be remembered at Alabama too, but he never coached a game...

Seriously... you're comparing Fulmer's history at UT with Mike Price at Alabama?

It's time for a change, but there's no need to take away what Fulmer has contributed in years past. He's a part of UT's success. The Majors-Fulmer era has been great for UT's program. It's precisely why our expectations are reasonably high.

UT should respect both for what they have contributed and treat them with the dignity they've earned.

Moving on is simply a necessity.

Nope, I was simply stating fact.

You decided to contort the statement to your liking because that's all you can do. Mike Price will forever be remembered in Alabama history because of the circumstances under which he left.

UT should treat Fulmer with respect and dignity. If he retired today, next year, or in the fantasy ending you depicted earlier, he should be given the highest levels of respect and will be for the most part.

If, however, we witness a five-year campaign to win 26 games (or however many remain) and beat a record, there is nothing anyone can do to preserve his legacy.

I'd agree with all the above--but express that I didn't intent to contort your comment. My apologies.

I've noted that, given the unexpected reality that has occured since this thread started (and fyi there may have been some Kool-Aid and a bit of ribbing the NegaVols in its making), I don't expect this will continue beyond the current season. Okay... a lot of Kool-Aid, then.

I can see a little good-natured ribbing in it. To me, it's obvious that CPF should be regarded as one of the great all-time Tennessee coaches. No matter what shape things are in, the guy is all-Vol, and we are heading into interesting times at UT. It's hard to think of a new coach. There have been only three head coaches at Tennessee in my lifetime, and I only remember two. That being said, change is coming. It's only a matter of when and how. Hopefully we will not witness another change in power that makes Fulmer feel as negatively toward the university as Majors has. To tell you the truth, the idea of a coaching change scares me, but I can't say it isn't warranted.

If I bristled too sharply, accept my apologies. Phillip Fulmer is no Mike Price. The only thing they share is that they will be remembered as SEC coaches. One should be remembered the right way, and the other will live in infamy.
