Tennessee football is at a crossroads. If the proper steps are made we can become relevant again very quickly.
If Tennessee passes on David Blackburn we will be looking at another decade long slump. As Haynesworth asked of the president, it's time to make Tennessee great again.

If Butch Jones is the head coach in 2017, it tells you everything you need to know about the leadership at this university and it's a sign that we aren't willing to be a championship program.

It won't be with me. There are serious problems that need to be addressed.

Agreed.winning another lower tier bowl when we were two inexplicable losses from playing in the SEC Championship game or even one unforgivable loss to Vandy that would have had us in a New Years 6 Bowl for the first time and finally back in the Sugar Bowl after all these years. Of course a bowl win will be nice and finishing 9-4 again but badly underachieving this year is hard to grasp. We were 15 mins and a 4th quarter we typically dominate away from scoreboard watching this weekend to see who our Sugar Bowl opponent was going to be. Now it's irrelevant who wins since it will be an average at best Auburn team spending New Years in Nola.

We seem to keep coming back to the same crossroad. Maybe we should try the other route.

I think it would be different it we had a Chancellor already sworn in and a new AD hired that could overhaul everything and hire his coach. But unfortunately we have neither and that makes it hard to fire and hire. I think if the new AD had already been in place there would be a good chance in that but not sure right now unless we luck up and he decides it's too much pressure and leaves for a Purdue or someone like that..Which I'm seriously holding out hope for but not convinced we are that lucky.

Imagine how much worse the meltdowns would have been if LSU had beaten Florida last week....

I do agree..I also wonder if there would have been more motivation. The defense looked as unmotivated and uninspired as I have seen from a team in a very long time. Even Kamara had some very uninspired play at times or wasn't focused. That last offensive play I don't know what the hell he was doing or thinking running out of bounds well short of the 1st down instead of atleast fighting to get the first down. This team just doesn't play smart football as much as they should, look very soft a lot of times and just poorly coached.

My sons and I were thankful for that after the game Saturday. People would have been jumping off ledges. Plus Vandy would have ... :banghead2:

Freak would be working for weeks to get this place running right again.

IMO I think he was trying to make a play and get OoB to stop the clock and just didn't see where he was on the field.
Not a excuse, but sometime pressure can get to you and you don't think everything through.

The pass should have never been behind the 1st down marker.

No, it means they are decent administrators, understand the value of a dollar, and they don't blow millions of them until we get the long term AD on The Hill.

Reality check - We are no better than any other school in the SEC right now, except Bama. Saban has pretty much destroyed the other schools in the SEC. Name a school that has any sort of chance competing with them in the next 5 years?

What does this have to do with Butch? Well... lots of schools looking for coaches. Is there a coaching talent shortage? I would say, that the fact that LSU went with Orgeron as head coach is a reflection of that shortage. He's a known, but he's no Saban. Texas hurriedly swooped in and got Herman. I've looked at the lists VN has been posting of potential candidates and I'm SMDH. We could EASILY head back in the wilderness on a knee jerk.

Having said that, I've lost faith in Butch, but he's still better than CDD. We are lacking in just fundamentals. Tackling, blocking, missed assignments. I'm under the impression that Jones hasn't surrounded himself with good coaches. Many of these games are won/lost between the spring game and Sept. 1.

If our defense could get off the field on 3rd and long, we'd be singing a different tune. And, we have done some things right. Our special teams, both kickoff and receiving is the best it's been in over a decade. We tend to ignore some of this stuff when the defense has stunk it up so bad.

Teach fundamentals and conditioning and it'll fix a lot of problems. A good AD would clean house in the tier under Jones and get some guys in there that teach fundamentals. Player development under Jones has sucked.

Geez. You can't hire a new coach with a lame duck AD. Get a clue

Painful to say but you are 100% spot on regarding Saban. Currently CFB is dominated by Saban, Meyer, and Harbaugh (in that order). Handful of coaches in the second tier. We happen to play the top coach every single year. And, if we play well in our division, we likely play him twice. Until we can find someone who can outscheme (because we sure arent going to out recruit him), our destiny is ALMOST predetermined.

If the things coming out about the next Chancellor are true I'm not sure we should swear her in. Maybe it's rumors but if she is a PC person that's wants to turn her back on anybody that has been here in the past 20 years in hiring folks I don't want her. Sounds like somebody that wants us to portray IVY league values instead of just being a good quality SEC public university she wants us to hide and bury our proud past. GBO and VFL

I doubt a new AD fires Jones right outta the gate. Unless Saban 2.0 is waiting in the wings in a perfect situation. We rocky toppers should still have the taste of making an "Ill planned coaching change without a better choice ready".
