UT Can't Attract A Great Football Coach?

Why do so many posters think UT can't attract a great coach? Here are some reasons why we can:

1) Best stadium and facilities in the SEC

2) Great and Loyal Fans

3) We can pay salary and benefits equal to any school

4) We play in the best football conference in the country

Does anyone seriously think that any other SEC Head Coaching position (other than maybe Florida) would be more desirable than UT?

I've lived in SC for 30 years and I can't figure why you would say that. The school is out in the boonies and its in the Friggin' ACC. Furthermore, SC has a 7% income tax.

Objection to the form of the question.

Of course we can attract a great football coach. However, we are very unlikely to lure a great football coach away from Oklahoma, Southern California, Ohio State, Alabama, or any other school which can match all of the four criteria (you left out a few) that were mentioned. We are not "more attractive" than they are.

Also, while we may be "as desirable" as any other job in the SEC, I would say that UGa, LSU, Auburn, and Alabama are "as desirable" as us, with USC and Arkansas close enough that the difference can be made up with money(Clemson, though not in the conference, probably falls into this category.)

Ante-up $4 million a year and the line for agents trying to get an interview for their coaching clients would start on Andy Holt Blvd. and end on Neyland Drive.

I think we could for sure lure a great coach away from another great program given to right incentives $$ hint, hint $$

most of the people arent saying we cant recruit a good coach, the problem is that the people that they're asking for are either deeply rooted and committed to building up a program (butch davis and spurrier) or are nfl coaches who are either having good years, about to coach an nfl team again, or have no desire/reason to come here or no experience coaching college teams

What's with all of the expert, smart-assed 1st time posters? First there is Michael Vick's perverted alter ego, now this...

Money is fine, but why would you believe UT has deeper pockets than Oklahoma or USC? Why would you believe that Tennessee is a more attractive job than Alabama or Florida? Tennessee is a good job--somewhere behind the top half-dozen with 15 or so other schools. That means you can attract a top notch coach, but probably not one from those 15 or 20 schools that can offer as good as or better than you do.

The ESPN deal will line the pockets of every SEC school. There will be lots of money to throw around.

I agree about where Tennessee stands.

Can we please not leave out that East Tennessee is a fantastic place to live? It boasts a moderate "four-season" climate, a variety of outdoor amenities (lakes, mountains, etc.), a low cost of living, managable traffic, and a generally "well-intended" culture. Lavish lakefront and mountain communities are being developed at a feverish pace, despite the bottoming-out housing market, which should tell you that I'm certainly not alone in my assessment.

As to the money issue: it isn't one. We can afford whoever we want.

I think our reputation as fans has taken a hit in the past couple years. We dont seem to travel as well to bowl games, we've been heard booing at home this year in basically every home game, and the support at road games has been very slim.

I totally agree. But the "we can get any coach we want" crowd does not want to inconvenienced with the truth.

Oh yeah, east Tennessee is a great place to live. Just have your family overt their eyes from the painted rock as you make your drive into work.

Good grief.
