Just wondering why the 2 most historic programs in the SEC have never met. You would think that one year since the game's inception they would have met. Would be huge if they did.

One or the other of them has been crappy pretty much constantly since the SEC split into divisions. I remember talking when the divisions were announced about how epic it would be when we met in a rematch for the championship. I was a longhaired college boy then. I'm an old bald man with a house full of kids now.

When we were good they were bad. Now they are good we are bad (for now). Also Fulmer couldn't beat Florida!!

while ut has been up, bama has been mostly down and vice versa. also florida making it to the sec title 5 years in a row from '92-'96 didn't help any.

They are also on the permanent cross-divisional schedule, which means one of them gets an SEC loss every year. It's not common for teams to rematch in the SECCG.

Bingo. From 1995 to 2005, Alabama was basically circling the Tidey Bowl. From 2005 to now, we've been wandering in the wilderness. Everything runs in cycles and our "up" cycles will coincide one day.

Funny thing is they were talking about it on ESPN radio a few months back, think it was Cowherd(sp?), and they said that it was everyone's fear when they first had the idea for the game that UT and Alabama would play each other almost every year. 20 years later it hasn't happened once. I agree though that it's pretty bizare that we haven't met once. 92 and 99 are the years that come to mind for me as years it should've been a UT-Bama rematch.

Yup...old Phil put a whipping on their program.

When we play "Bama" in the SEC Championship game, we will need to beat them in Oct. and again in Dec of the same season. Big task but not impossible. I remember
we played Auburn in the regular season and barely lost. Kevin Burnett said "I guarantee
you that we will see them again in Atlanta." He was right but we lost that game also.
I do see a day when we will play "Bama" in the SEC Championship game!

Once dooley gets it turned about, UT will start winning the East. Bama will win the west most years so it is a matter of time before UT plays bama for the title.

I think you're correct on this. UF and LSU have never met in the SECCG either, and both have been excellent teams for the last 10 years.

he is correct.....i could see a UGA vs Auburn or a LSU vs UF secc matchup in the future. A long ways off for a Bama v UT rematch. It would make for one interesting season for sure.

It'll happen eventually I'm sure.....though it is kinda crazy that it hasn't happened already

It happens every year on my NCCA College Football '11. I get to beat them once in the regular season and again in the SECC.

Fulmer had his problems with Uf but he beat the hell out of Bama and I will take that trade off anyday.

Probably because we play Bama ever year so one of the other usually knocks the other out of contention.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. The math just makes it less likely for any rematch from the regular season.
