UT/Bama game time set for 3:30 CBS

Which I don't understand because ESPN is ABC college football but whatever. It's a money thing I'm sure. Here is to hoping for night game on some channel and we win!

It's the language in the TV contracts themselves. Just because ESPN owns ABC doesn't mean our games can be put on it any time.

Yes, I contributed to that whole thread a couple days ago. I know what the rules are supposed to be. But exceptions can be bade to anything when money is on the line .

You act like ESPN would actually give CBS either more money than showing the game would get CBS or the TV rights to something that would be worth more than showing this game.

What could/would ESPN give them?

Does anyone have a list of standards or rules CBS uses in picking their games each week? More specifically how they pick their one 8pm game each year?

Not overlooking aTm at all but if we beat them this week, is their a chance CBS could exercise their 8 pm time slot for the Bama game assuming they win this week as well? Everything I have found looks like they have already chosen November 5 (LSU vs Bama week) as the week they are going to use the 8 pm time slot but was just curious if that could change.

I would guess if they could change it they would.

I'm aware....it's been scheduled for 3:30. DONE DEAL. Check the schedule

Is there any precedent in them ever changing a game time?

Even if there isn't, I am still interested to know how that time slot and the date it is used on is selected. Any idea?

I'm so happy he's gone after this year. Those 2 have an obvious hatred for Tennessee, you could hear the disappointment in their voices when Jennings caught that ball Saturday.

That's because the wrong legend was written on the last play......at least according to Gary. He was so intent on Eason making his mark , then the Big Orange ruined the ending. All the Ga fans putting down their smartphones with open mouths was priceless.......:birgits_giggle:

It doesn't appear to be likely. Since they announce the week chosen for the CBS doubleheaders back in June, that likely means they have to use it as "reserving it in advance" tool rather than it being able to fluctuate closer to the game date.

I don't think I've seen a situation where they've moved the double header week during the season (what happened with LSU and Alabama was something completely different).

There has not been any precedent in it regarding CBS. CBS is only alloted 1 SEC prime time slot per season, which is picked well before the season, per its SEC contract.

The only thing that would come close - and it's not even the same thing - was when it was revealed that LSU/Alabama would be a #1 vs #2 matchup following the week 10 polls of the season. They had to set up a trade with ESPN (who has "an SEC primetime deal"), which was done the Sunday before that game. CBS had to give up the rights to first selection during either a week or two weeks in the following season, give up its 3:30pm SEC game timeslot for that weekend, make a deal with NBC/Versus network (giving them an afternoon game), and give NBC/Versus one of the games two weeks later from its family of networks.

But again, CBS had to make such a swap because the network is alloted only 1 SEC prime time slot per season, which is picked well before the season (used for week 5, the weekend of a doubleheader Auburn vs #10 South Carolina and a #3 Alabama vs #12 Florida).

This whole thread made it clear to me that many fans are completely oblivious to TV contracts, even when someone comes on here and states them clearly. Read the thread, people! The answers are there!

We've been debating this back & forth since yesterday. It's not clear really. I think ESPN kicks in here & has first choice but I'm not sure on that either. I think it will determine who wins the UT-A&M game first.

ESPN will then probably get the first dibs on the UT-Bama game & I would guess they would place the game on ABC in primetime if UT beats A&M.

CBS gets first pick after week 3 of the season.

ESPN does not get a weekend after week 3 where it gets to sprint up ahead of CBS and call first pick. The only time anything like that happened was in 2012, and that was only because doing such that year was a result of the "trade" CBS made with ESPN to be able to air the 2011 #1 LSU vs #2 Alabama game as a primetime game (instead of just airing it as the normal afternoon game, because CBS contractually only gets 1 SEC primetime game a year).

ESPN also can't just take an SEC vs SEC game and stick it on ABC just because "ESPN owns ABC." The contract (the language of the contract) sets out what networks are agreed/allowed to put their SEC matchups on, and said contract doesn't allow them to do such with ABC (not to mention, while we don't have it, other contracts ESPN has with other conferences guarantee them usage of that primetime ABC slot).

CBS pays big money to get the first pick for their prime 3:30 slot each week. Once a year they get a double header and host a 3:30 and 8PM game per their contract. They decided weeks ago that would be the Bama/LSU game as it's been for the last several years. ESPN fills in after CBS makes their pick but ESPN can't show a game opposite the 3:30 game. ESPN typically puts their picks on ESPN/ESPN2/ESPNU at night and then the SEC network gets the leftovers. Sometimes ESPN puts a game or two on at noon but that usually happens later in the year for some reason. We were always going to be the 3:30 game this week because CBS chose their double header weeks ago. Also there is no scenario where backroom deals are made between CBS and ABC/ESPN. Our Florida game had the highest CFB ratings of that weekend and CBS doesn't deal that game to anyone. Although night games are prefered by a lot of fans, the 3:30 game is the best game of the week and it's good to be occupying that slot again consistantly!

Bingo.

Likely, there's a good chance this will be the last CBS UT game for a while, but there seems like a good chance UT will get the timeslot again for the week of the Missouri game (November 19)...mostly due to pretty much everyone in the SEC playing FCS or Group of 5 teams (as it's the weekend before most of their "last game of the season big rivalries.")

Woo hoo 3:30 game means dinner at 8

Or more alcohol :D

Genuinely happy the game is at 3:30PM, meaning it starts at 4:30AM for me. Gotta work that Sunday from 9AM. If the game were starting at 8:30 / 9:30 my time, I'd suddenly get "very very sick."

Although I do wanna see Neyland under the lights.

GBO!

If its not your wedding a coin flip is in order...

I would not leave that one to fate. I have been to a couple of Fall weddings where they had a football themed reception with televisions aplenty, which was acceptable. Otherwise, it's a no go. My family knows where I stand on this having played chicken with me once. I didn't budge.

OL Thomas Edwards tweet. Lol!.....

The real reason we're on CBS again is to give Verne yet another chance to get @Finally_Maybin's name right

JRM's response....

BRUHHHHH!!
