Coach Kiffin leaves rotten impression

February 14, 2009

Running off at the typewriter ...

How bad is it when an entire city is now protesting your college football coach?

And how bad is it when even your own athletic director essentially calls your football coach a liar?

Just ask University of Tennessee fans. In the last week, new coach/pathological liar Lane Kiffin has become the laughing stock of the entire country.

It was bad enough when the Pahokee Chamber of Commerce officially penned a letter of protest for derogatory remarks Kiffin made about Pahokee High School in the wake of signing Pahokee receiver Nu'Keese Richardson last week.

Then comes this: In the latest issue of Sports Illustrated, Kiffin claims he fired one UT employee and others had been "run off" because they could not keep up with his hectic work schedule. One problem: When the Knoxville News Sentinel checked on the story, UT Athletic Director Mike Hamilton said, "He has not fired anybody. If he said he has fired somebody, that's not true."

So let's review, shall we?

In the last few days, Kiffin has falsely accused Florida Coach Urban Meyer of breaking NCAA rules, broken NCAA rules himself, instructed a recruit to lie to the media, lied to the media himself, been reprimanded by the SEC, impugned the integrity of Pahokee High School, been forced to issue public apologies to Pahokee High and UF and, last but not least, proven Al Davis to be somewhat sane after all.

Points out one wise reader: With Lane Kiffin in charge, Rocky Top is starting to smell more and more like Rotten Top.

I assure you, very few here give two craps what some idiot in Chicago or anywhere else outside of Tennessee thinks about our coach.

Its obvious that all these "Football Experts" on here really don't know what they are talking about.Example#1 These experts are saying that we are embarrassing our University by these violations, Which in turn the media keeps churning out neg press. If all these so called "fans of UT" would educate themselves they would stop being lured to these neg stories, which in turn would stop the neg press.Fact#1 EVERY DIV I SCHOOL LAST YEAR REPORTED SECONDARY VIOLATIONS. The average was 7 relating to Football programs across the country. I did this research on my own since I'm home recovering from back surgery, nothing else to do.Anyway Fact#2 This neg press is being driven by the old guard that didn't want to see any change. That's the problem u have when someone is in position of leadership for long period of time.People DON'T LIKE CHANGE. Example#2: Has anyone noticed how many college players are being suspended or kicked off teams across the country for violating state laws (ie:DUI,etc)Fact#1: When was last time its been this quiet around UT with no players getting into trouble.Fact#2:That's what causes embarrassment to the University. People need to admit that CPF did not have control of the program. That's not going to be a problem now.The coaching staff we have in place now is going to win a lot of games and clean up the discipline problems we have had in the past. The Fulmer supporters need to get over the fact that he is not coming back and get on the Lane Train or find another team. For the ones that are easily swayed, Don't let the media brainwash you into believing that the program can only be run by who THEY think is best for the job.We will be just fine. Are we going have secondary violations, sure just like every other football program, embarrassment Please. When we start reading about our players in the Police blotter then you can talk embarrassment.DON'T LET THE MEDIA INFLUENCE WHAT YOU FEEL IS BEST FOR THE PROGRAM. Go Vols

What ever happened to reporting all of the facts? Kiffin did fire the guy but Hamilton had them reinstated and reassigned. BTW, who really cares what the Chicago Tribune thinks?

Well in a sense he is right, The whole country is laughing right now but if Kiffin produces on the field then all of this will be forgotten and honestly, who gives a crap what everybody else thinks?....I keep telling myself that he knows what he's doing and not to worry...But in the back of our mind We all are a bit worried until We see results and not just a bunch of write ups and reprimands from the SEC.

Like my step-mother said, "Kiffin in an arrogant @$$hole, but he's our arrogant @$$hole."

I am totally behind the guy.

Having said that, I think he has psychiatric issues.

Just win, baby!

quote: Fact#1 EVERY DIV I SCHOOL LAST YEAR REPORTED SECONDARY VIOLATIONS.

Can you point out which ones publicly called out the others for cheating before having to report their own violations?

Your spin doesn't work. He not laughed at because he had secondary violation.....everybody has them. Its because he called out UM for it when it WASN'T EVEN A VIOLATION and then miraculously he had to report 3 violations himself....looks like he is incompetent. Yes spin it all you want with your orange glasses but in the back of your mind you know its true. He's has embarrassed UT.

The ONLY reason that this is news is because of the reactions of the threatened (Florida/Bama) and the Negavols/Fulerites whining. They should both just give it up. There is a change on Rocky Top. The days of being the pathetic old dog who takes crap and won't bark, much less bite, are gone. Also, to all you Fulmerites; Phil is gone and he aint coming back. Get over it.

i cant disagree with you, VnM. that is why the "i cant wait till September" post keeps popping up, i believe. i do, however, think we are gonna have a mean ass team take the field this year. are we gonna lose some games? of course, but we are gonna leave a few bruises in the process.

Wow! You did a poll of the rest of the country. That must have taken a long time. I am impressed. :hi:
Quite frankly, why would we care what they think?

Ask Miami if having a bad rep with a cocky coach hurt them in recruiting or winning games.

Of course, you have to produce on the field. Give the man a chance to do it before you bash him.

Turns out this article originated at something called the Orlando Sentinel by some idiot named Mike Bianchi.

Let's all write to Mike at the address below to let him know what we think about his opinion of Lane Kiffin.

Mike Bianchi's Open Mike blog can be read at Orlando Sentinel - Open Mike -, and he can be reached at mbianchi@orlandosentinel.com.

Go Vols!

Miami hasnt done anything special as of late.

If he kept his mouth closed and let the players do his talking on the field he wouldn't get bashed.

Orlando Sentinel is one of the worst papers in the country and that includes the sports section. Par for the course with this article.

So you don't like that other people can have an opinion other than your own? Especially when yours might be a little bias at least?
