odds don't necessarily mean that's what they think will happen, odds are made where they think the money will go.

In the sense that the article handicaps UT to be above average -- but less than stellar -- in most of the main measures, what's so wrong about that? Where does UT have "one of the best in the country" in any of those areas?

You don't. You are serviceable everywhere and have an experienced QB, but not one that has people scratching their heads, especially with what he has around him.

I applaud UT for trying to shake things up a bit this year, and we'll see if it works. But, really, where is that article so off base in terms of calling UT better than average, but not special?

Missouri probably does considering the schedule we have to play.

No one from the SEC is playing in the NC game IMHO.
You now officialy have the best avatar of all time. Jason is the greatest character in movie history. To see him with the T and the Cal bear head is classic.

They want you to believe that's Jason in the avatar, but really it's Jerod Mayo, and inside the bear head is Nate Longshore's

agreed. The problem is that fans have come to expect the Notre Dame treatment, meaning that their team is expected to be in the top 10 every year, or at least in the conversation, despite what they have done. College football ebbs and flows-UT will be back on top again just like Nebraska and others who have been down the last few years.

The fact of the matter is that UT has NEVER really been an elite team, just a very good team. You can't count the number of times we have finished in the final top 5 on two hands.....not just modern day, but all time. For whatever reason, the expectations have seemed to get a little high just the last ten years or so. Ever since the national championship. I am in my early 40s and am somewhat of a student of UT sports history in regards to football and basketball. We are barely in the top ten of all time. So when I hear someone mention the phrase "we will be back on top" I almost cringe becasue we never really have occupied the "top" for very long.

All I meant by "on top" was that they would be a top level team...which they have been in the past.

OK, but I associate "top level" with being in the top four or five.....Is that a fair assessment of your interpretation? If so, then my point is there has never been a sustained level of even finishing in the top ten. Go back to what many in this forum think were their best teams....... the nineties. How many years in a row did UT finish in the final top ten. Their most consitent top level finishes post-Neyland were from the late sixities through the early seventies. How many years did the Vols finish in the final top ten during Peyton' s four years? See, when you go back and check you will find out our expections have been so high because of our potential and talent level rather than actual results.

Interesting they start the article by saying Fulmer is in the hot seat. that is the first time I have noticed any media source making that statement.
