USF new stadium/new conference?

South Florida building a new on campus football stadium.
Rumors they are lobbying to get into the Big12 soon.

That’s exciting to get a new stadium. I don’t think the stadium renderings are particularly beautiful.

I'm sure they want to, but does the B12 want them? The already have UCF, I don't see what USF would bring them.

I was surprised at watching the video that their new stadium will only seat 35,000. The Big12 might think that’s too small to offer them membership.

A great place for teams to visit and recruit.
Orlando is nice but Tampa Bay has the water.

They'd fit in great in the new Big 12.

Of course, after OU and Texas left the Big 12, they pretty much turned into a super G5 conference.

In the modern era where TV contracts might be even more important than stadium attendance, I'm not sure that would be a big deal. The bigger consideration might be that South Florida doesn't really open up a new TV market (they already have UCF).

35k would make them the smallest stadium in the conference, but not dramatically so. Cincinnati's seats 38k and Houston seats 40k. The conference's average stadium size is ~51k.

I think they're positioning themselves to move to the ACC when FSU, Clemson, UNC, etc make their moves. Them, Memphis, Tulane.
